🇬🇧 A bird protection device (BPD) must be provided on the supports of 6, 10 kV lines, since the traverse of these supports is short and the number of insulators is minimal (1-2 insulators). However, in places of migration of large-winged birds, BPD are also provided on supports of 35, 110, 220 and even 500 kV. In order to avoid the death of birds in 2004, the Dovetail traverse was developed on reinforced concrete supports of 6-10 kV with suspended fittings. Also in the photos there are supports with places for birds to squat (above the insulators), but this is not the best solution to get out of the situation. At the moment, insulating plates are provided, which are mounted above or behind the clamps. There are also anti-shrink "Hedgehogs", which are better suited as a frame for building a nest, which, accordingly, is also not an effective BPD. In the next post, we will look at the BPD that ornithologists recommend.
