Rail Employees Suspended After Throwing Water at Man Lying Outside London Station

#UK: Southern Rail suspended two employees following an incident that occurred at Sutton Station, #London, on February 24 which shows them throwing water at a man who appears to be homeless. Footage circulating online shows two employees, one of whom has a mop and bucket. He pours water around where the man had been sleeping, causing him and his belongings to get wet. One of the employees tells the recorder, "you don’t need to film it”, before repeatedly saying, “there’s no story.” Passenger Services Director for Southern Railway, Angie Doll, said about the incident: ‘The two staff members seen in the video have been suspended. ‘We would like to apologise to the homeless man and we are trying to make contact with him to offer help and support.’

Brexit supporter who assaulted Jeremy Corbyn jailed for 28 days

A #Brexit supporter who attacked #JeremyCorbyn with an egg during a mosque visit while yelling “respect the vote” has admitted an assault charge and been sentenced to 28 days’ imprisonment.

John Murphy, hit the Labour leader in the head with the egg during the visit to Finsbury Park mosque and #Muslim Welfare House in his north #London constituency as part of the annual Visit My Mosque Day initiative.

Corbyn was not hurt in the incident and continued with the tour alongside #DianeAbbott, the shadow home secretary. The Labour leader had left the room to wash himself when he realised he had been struck by an egg.

Corbyn said he was “shocked and surprised” by the attack, which prompted his team to work on increasing his security, Westminster magistrates court heard on Monday.

Murphy, 31, pleaded guilty to an assault by beating charge. He was arrested soon after the incident on March 3.

Julian Assange Charged by U.S. With Conspiracy to Hack a Government Computer

#UK: The #US has charged #WikiLeaks founder #JulianAssange with one count of conspiracy to #Hack a computer related to his role in the 2010 release of reams of secret American documents, according to a criminal complaint unsealed Thursday just hours after British authorities arrested him in #London.

The single charge, conspiracy to commit computer intrusion, stems from what prosecutors said was his agreement to break a password to a classified US government computer. It is not an espionage charge, a significant detail that will come as a relief to press freedom advocates. The US government had considered until at least last year charging him with an espionage-related offense.

Mr. Assange, 47, has been living at the #Ecuador'ean Embassy in London since 2012. British authorities arrested him after he was evicted by the Ecuadoreans.
Ecuador's president says Assange tried to use its embassy to spy

#WikiLeaks founder #JulianAssange repeatedly violated his asylum conditions and tried to use the #Ecuador'ian embassy in #London as a center for spying, Ecuador’s President #LeninMoreno told #UK’s #Guardian newspaper. London police dragged Assange out of the embassy on Thursday after his seven-year asylum was revoked, paving the way for his extradition to the United States for one of the biggest ever leaks of classified information.

Assange’s relationship with his hosts collapsed after Ecuador accused him of leaking information about Moreno’s personal life. Moreno denied to the Guardian that he had acted as a reprisal for the way in which documents about his family had been leaked. He said he regretted that Assange had used the embassy to interfere in other country’s democracies.
Julian Assange: Wikileaks co-founder jailed over bail breach

#Wikileaks co-founder #JulianAssange has been sentenced to 50 weeks in jail for breaching his bail conditions. The 47-year-old was found guilty of breaching the Bail Act last month after his arrest at the #Ecuador'ian Embassy. He took refuge in the #London embassy in 2012 to avoid extradition to #Sweden over sexual assault allegations, which he has denied.

In a letter read to the court, Assange said he had found himself "struggling with difficult circumstances". He apologised to those who "consider I've disrespected them", a packed Southwark Crown Court heard.
"I did what I thought at the time was the best or perhaps the only thing that I could have done," he said.

In sentencing him, Judge Deborah Taylor told Assange it was difficult to envisage a more serious example of the offence. "By hiding in the embassy you deliberately put yourself out of reach, while remaining in the #UK," she said.
