To link your Aadhaar card to your PAN card in 2025, follow these official steps:
Online Method (Without Logging In)
Visit the Income Tax e-Filing Portal: Go to the official Income Tax Department website.
Find the ‘Link Aadhaar’ Option: Look for “Link Aadhaar” under the Quick Links section on the homepage.
Enter Details: Enter your PAN number, Aadhaar number, name as per Aadhaar, and your mobile number.
Validate: Click ‘Validate’. If required, complete the captcha.
OTP Verification: An OTP (One-Time Password) will be sent to your registered mobile number.
Submit: Enter the OTP and click on ‘Link Aadhaar’. You’ll receive a confirmation on successful submission.
Online Method (After Logging In)
Log in to the e-Filing Portal: Use your PAN/Aadhaar as user ID and input your password.
Dashboard: On your dashboard, in the Profile section, find the “Link Aadhaar to PAN” option and click it.
Enter Aadhaar: Type your Aadhaar number accurately.
Validate: Complete the verification process.
Confirmation: You’ll see a success message and can check the status in your profile.
Important Notes
Penalty if Delayed: If you missed earlier deadlines, you can still link your PAN-Aadhaar by paying a ₹1,000 penalty via the ‘e-Pay Tax’ feature on the portal.
Deadline for Some PAN Holders: If your PAN was obtained using Aadhaar enrolment ID before 1 October 2024, you must link by 31 December 2025 for free. After this, your PAN becomes inoperative from 1 January 2026.
Exceptions: Linking is not required for residents of Assam, J&K, Meghalaya; non-residents; citizens aged 80+; and non-citizens.
SMS Method:
You may also link by SMS. Send:
UIDPAN <12-digit Aadhaar> <10-digit PAN>
to 567678 or 56161.
