🇬🇧 Google silently launches the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro in Italy and Spain in limited quantities
As Google Italy notes in its announcement, the new phones will be available in the two countries in limited quantities. Due to the strong demand, the company expects the stock to sell out soon, with additional units only expected to arrive in May. So if you live in Italy or Spain and have been looking to buy the new Pixel phones for a while now, you should pull the trigger on them as soon as possible — none of the units are currently listed as out of stock.
Google is only selling limited SKUs of the phones — they are only available with 128GB storage in Carbon/Just Black color, with no other color or storage combination to be seen. The smaller Pixel is priced at €649, while the Pro is available for €899. There's no pre-order or launch day offers like those the company was handing out when it initially released the Pixel 6 series last year in other markets.

During Alphabet’s Q4 2021 earning call on Tuesday, Sundar Pichai described the Pixel 6 as a commercial success, stating that the latest Pixel phones “set an all-time quarterly sales record.”
“In Q4, we set an all time quarterly sales record for Pixel. This came in spite of an extremely challenging supply chain environment. The response to Pixel 6 from our customers and carrier partners was incredibly positive,” said Sundar Pichai, CEO of Alphabet and Google.

The company has removed the shadows between the red, yellow, and green in the outer ring, while also “refining the proportions and brightening the colors.” While using “flat colors,” Google did add a “subtle gradient to the main icon to mitigate” how an “unpleasant color vibration” exists between green and red.
Google’s other big aim with this icon is to support “OS-specific customizations.” Designer Elvin on Twitter explains that Google “want[s] the icons to feel recognizably Chrome, but also well crafted for each OS.”

In this version Google introduced new COLRv1 font format. This font format allows emoji files to be reduced in size, supporting variations and can reuse existing outlines. In fact, it is based on the vector SVG image file format, which preserves shapes and outlines rather than pixels.
Also Installed web apps can now display content inside the top app bar, allowing them to show elements like search bars, titles, or navigation buttons right at the top, in the otherwise wasted space.
