Сьогодні Окремий центр спеціальних операцій «Захід» (8-й полк) відзначає 62-гу річницю початку своєї історії.
15 грудня 1962 року була сформована 8-ма окрема бригада спеціального призначення ГРУ СРСР, яка у 1992 склала присягу на вірність українському народові. У 2003 році бригада була реформована у 8-й ОП СпП.
У 2016 році полк перейшов у підпорядкування ССО, а після повномасштабного вторгнення став Окремим центром.
