green magick

when discussing magick, i consider "green" to be synonymous with "herbal".

this differentiation from "black" or "white" is made from the perspective of the finite nature of our existence.

essentially, what separates mankind from the Gods, is the temporary manifestation of our being.

in mythology, the Gods are often referred to as "deathless"... while in contrast, we are subject to death.

certainly, many of us have heard of such tales as "the philosopher's stone", or "the fountain of youth"... which begs the question: is death necessary? must we die (in a physical sense)?

of course, arguments can be made for both positive and negative affirmations...

what may be less obvious, is the consideration that 'death is a place'.

aging is a consequence of the decisions we make... a consequence of 'that which we consume'...

[you are what you eat]

but its more than that...

[we are what we consume]

and as a mortal beings, we consume experience.

[everything is temporary, even death]

Shame and Symbolism - The White Feather Campaign

The White Feather Campaign began with the creation of the white feather as a symbol of cowardice and unfulfilled civic duty.

With the war effort and the recruitment campaign in full swing, the women of the White Feather would present any healthy young Englishman in civilian dress with this token, in order to symbolize their scorn for him and his failure to be a man.

The Campaign worked fairly well and by shaming Home front men, these women drove many into the army out of dread of receiving a white feather themselves.

Englishwomen had been molded into a weapon against the masculine identity through propaganda and promises of patriotism.

Casa Loma, Toronto, Canada

The official narrative states that the construction of this castle began in 1911 and was completed in 1914.

It was apparently built by Sir Henry Pellatt and his wife who lived there until it was seized by the city in 1924 for unpaid taxes.

Casa Loma means โ€œHill Houseโ€ in Spanish. In Latin, โ€œa broken houseโ€.

Which is interesting since in these two clippings from the Toronto Daily Star states that Sir Henry and Lady Pellatt were living there, even hosting events.

1907:
Sir Henry and Lady Pellatt are at their town house, having closed Casa Loma on Davenport Hill for the winter. Lady Pellatt will not receive until the first Monday in November.

1909:
On Saturday afternoon the Horticultural Society and the Gardenersโ€™ and Florists' Association paid their annual visit to Col. Sir Henry Pellatt's conservatories at Casa Loma. About 300 people were present, and were received by Sir Henry. After the greenhouses had been inspected and admired, tea was served in the conservatory from a long table decorated with lilies and presided over by Mrs. Reginald Pellatt and Miss Perry.
