+ ABOUT BIAS
An outcome is biased only if the process that produces it is biased.
A biased person is disposed to systematically depart from
a norm or standard of correctness.
When a person counts as biased in virtue of
having a certain disposition, the disposition might be
a robust aspect of their psychology, or it might disappear as soon as the external circumstances
change.
If a belief is a manifestation of a bias, then itโs not knowledge even if itโs true.
BIASED THINKER. A person acquires a confident and firm belief, in the absence of any empirical evidence, that pit bulls are dangerous, and he regularly employs that belief in reasoning about particular pit bulls (e.g. when it comes to interpreting their behaviour).
Unbiased judgments can be false, and biased judgments can be true.
EMERGENT BIAS: A whole might be biased even if (i) it has at least some proper parts that are either biased or unbiased, and (ii) all of those parts
are unbiased.
