The Hyksos were a group of foreign rulers who gained control over parts of ancient Egypt during the Second Intermediate Period (circa 1782-1570 BCE). They were likely of Semitic origin, possibly from Canaan. The Hyksos introduced new military technologies, such as chariots and composite bows, which helped them establish their dominance. They ruled over northern Egypt from their capital city of Avaris in the Nile Delta.
