This is a special piece. A log of petrified wood whose core shrunk and detached mostly from the bark but is still somewhat held in place. What likely happened was that the log was covered in algae and this encrustation held the bark - that did not shink - back in place but allowed to wood core to shrink. There is also a fully agatized limb stump on the surface. Hefty 15 pound blue forest piece from the Green River Formation.
