dear friends!
we are thrilled to announce that we are back to our regular book clubs!
during our time away, we’ve accumulated a few updates!
🤩 first of all......drumroll....... we graduated !
In the meantime, we managed to finish our theses, defend them, get our diplomas, collapse from exhaustion, and rise from the ashes once more! Now this channel and the book club are run not just by students, but by certified bachelor's degree holders, linguists, and translators!
feel free to give a special shoutout to Karima and Karina for their honors diplomas!
🤩 secondly! one of us (specifically, ulyana) has made the big move from Moscow to St. Petersburg, so our book clubs will mostly be taking place online from now on!
🤩 thirdly, Engliture has launched a chat where you can join in to discuss books in English and much more!
🤩 and finally, you can look forward to several upcoming events, with announcements dropping very soon!
🌹 additionally, feel free to share in the comments or through this form (if you prefer to keep it a secret) which books you’d like to read together this autumn!
we've missed you very much and hope to see you soon at the book discussions and chat in English over a cup of tea(and not just tea) !
with love,
the Engliture team📚

🤩 we will discuss the great Mary Shelley, the gothic genre, psychological parallelism, the abomination of nature, ableism, lookism, how to effectively learn French in 16 hours, and uncover who the real villain is in this story!
🤩 the meeting will take place on october 11th at 7:00 PM, online!
🤩 to participate, please register using the link!

Dear readers! 💌
🦢 we want to inform you that our friends and allies from womancore will be celebrating their birthday this saturday, october 4th! they are turning 2 years old!
uliana(the co-author of this channel) attended one of their first book clubs on Little Women when they had less than 100 subscribers. now they have grown into a huge community with a talented team, regular events, and an unmistakably unique style!
🦢 for their birthday party womancore has prepared an exciting program, which you can learn more about in their channel!
🦢 we highly recommend subscribing to them as they often host meetings ranging from support groups and workshops to movie screenings!
🦢 and by the way, they also have their own book club and english speaking club!!
🦢 it is a great honor and pleasure for us to traditionally collaborate with them for an autumn book club!
happy upcoming birthday, friends!
we wish you to continue growing, to seek (and experience) fun and enjoyment from your wonderful and very important project!
with love,
the Engliture team📚

Our dear brave readers🧸 ,
(because only the brave set off to read such a tragic spooky novel as Frankenstein)
No upcoming bookclub is really an upcoming bookclub without at least a small portion of curious facts beforehand. So this is what we are giving you today: bits and pieces of Frankenstein's fascinating story📖
🤩 Mary Shelley was only 18 when she started writing the novel and 20 when it came out;
🤩 The book was originally published anonymously in 1818. The version under Mary Shelley's name came out only in 1831;
🤩 She created the book as a dare in a writing contest between herself, her husband Percy Shelley and her stepsister Claire Clairmiont, Lord Byron, and even Byron's physician, John Polidori;
🤩 Many believed that the author of the novel was Mary's husband Percy — a prominent writer himself, yet, as thought by historians, only an editor of his wife's creation;
🤩 At first the critics bashed Frankenstein, and not earlier than several years later did the work gain proper recognition;
🤩 Frankenstein is widely considered to be the first science fiction novel in English.
Overall, we are truly astonished at the story behind the creation of this literary piece along with it being an exemplary artifact of women’s writing. To learn more about that we suggest reading this article as well as this one

dear book lovers, 🌟
the book club is just around the corner, and we want to share a bit more information about Mary Shelley. her biography is so rich that we regret not doing a whole podcast as her story deserves at least an hour-long episode. we will share some brief facts with you and hope this inspires you to learn a little more about her!though we are sure it's not the last time we read Mary Shelley!
🪡 Mary was born in 1797 at the end of summer, on august 30. her mother was none other than the prominent english writer Mary Wollstonecraft (we're sure we'll dedicate a month to her as well) , who sadly passed away shortly after giving birth to her daughter...
🪡 her father was an atheist, which was incomprehensible for 18th century!
🪡 Mary was a true rebel. at sixteen, she eloped from home because she was in love with the poet Percy Bysshe Shelley, who was five years older than her and married! Together, they ran away to Switzerland! (ring any bells?)
🪡 she wrote one of the first post-apocalyptic novels in literary history — The Last Man, published in 1826!
🪡 Mary Shelley was friends with famous literary figures such as Lord Byron, John William Polidori, and John Keats. (a person is known by the company they keep!)
🪡 she did not eat meat, which was quite unusual and provocative for that time!
to tell the truth, it is impossible to fit everything about Mary Shelley's life into one post, but we would like to recommend a few sources if you want to learn more about her:
🤩 Mary Shelley's Frankenstein: A Documentary (2007)
🤩 Mary Shelley: A Biography by the National Theatre
📕 Romantic Outlaws: The Extraordinary Lives of Mary Wollstonecraft and Mary Shelley by Charlotte Gordon (a book)

🌟 got inspiration to finish reading the book (for those of us who didn’t manage to complete it before the book club)
a big thank you to all the participants and organizers!

tomorrow at 19:00 we will gather with you for a Halloween book club to discuss House of Yesterday (2022). in anticipation of this event, we would like to share some information about the author of the book
🌟 Deeba Zargarpur is an Afghan-Uzbek american author who developed a love for literature and storytelling from a young age, influenced by her immigrant parents and their eerie tales
🤩 she grew up in Virginia, exploring the woods and imagining magical adventures
🤩 she is also the author of another novel, Farrah Noorzad and the Ring of Fate (2024). this novel blends magic, and adventure, inspired by the writer’s childhood fantasies
🤩 Deeba credits her storytelling skills to her family's rich linguistic and cultural background, including the music and folklore of her grandparents' Farsi language
🤩 in 2020, Deeba founded Writers of Afghan Heritage, an initiative that supports, mentors, and advocates for diverse Afghan voices in mainstream publishing
🤩 she describes herself as adventurous, especially when exploring scary areas, which is reflected in the horror elements and eerie settings present in some of her books
🤩 desides writing, she enjoys gaming and rewatching anime series like Inuyasha
