For Muhammad al-Deif (r), the most important measure of his soldiers was not their rank, but how much of the Book of God they carried in their hearts.

His daughter Baha’a al-Din Mohamed El-Deif fondly remembered her father’s wisdom: “My father was keen that we understand the Quran, not just memorize it.”

His son Khaled Mohamed El-Deif reflected on their father’s approach: “During the final exams, my father would bring a whiteboard and teach us mathematics. He wouldn’t pressure us, but for two hours we would go play.”
