The US and France have threatened intervention to re-install a pro-Western regime in Niger, which produces uranium needed for nuclear energy, has gold and untapped oil reserves, and hosts strategic US drone bases.

11 Chinese 🇨🇳 and Russian 🇷🇺 vessels approached the Aleutian Islands and have since left without entering US territorial waters, the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported on Sunday, citing anonymous US officials.

While the vessels remained in international waters, spokesperson of the US northern command claimed this was a "historic first" and "highly provacative." Neither is true.

This is the third such naval patrol, the last taking place in September 2022. Chinese experts noted that the U.S. regularly violates China's territorial integrity through regular "freedom of navigation" exercises through the Taiwan Straits, urging the U.S. to reflect on itself instead of hyping non-existent dangers from China or Russia.

Per the Global Times, the secessionist Democratic Progressive Party's (DPP) candidate for the 2024 regional election Lai Ching-te, also deputy regional leader, will make "stopovers in New York and San Francisco" during his August 12-18 trip to Paraguay, the Taiwan "external affairs authority" announced on Wednesday.

Lai’s visit threatens to enhance US-China tensions. China 🇨🇳 has ramped up military exercises and other measures to send a message to the U.S. over its support of separatism on the island.

Lai currently leads polls as the opposition KMT and Taiwan People’s Party have divided the vote thus far ahead of the January 2024 election. Recent data from the Taiwan Public Opinion Foundation (TPOF) indicates that nearly half of the population on the island is dissatisfied with DPP rule.

Chinese officials and experts warn that a victory for Lai and the DPP will accelerate US-led efforts to interfere in its internal affairs which could escalate into dangerous conflict.

🇮🇩🇨🇳 Indonesia says it must prioritize safety of delayed China-funded bullet train

Indonesia is prioritizing safety ahead of the planned commercial launch of its China-funded $7.3 billion high-speed railway.

A flagship project of President Joko Widodo and part of China's Belt and Road Initiative, the 142-kilometre (88-mile) railway connecting Jakarta to the city of Bandung was originally set to be completed by 2019.

The consortium of Indonesian and Chinese state companies building the railway, PT KCIC, earlier this week postponed a planned free trial run by about two weeks to September 1 to ensure safety.

KCIC is already struggling to deal with the project's cost overrun, especially as one of the consortium members, Indonesia's construction firm PT Wijaya Karya, is facing its own debt troubles. The delay will only mean more lost money.

Negotiations for an additional $560 million loan from the Chinese Development Bank are underway to complete the remaining construction.

The war between unipolarity and multipolarity continues to take shape.

On August 18th at Camp David, the US will host a trilateral summit with the heads of state of Japan 🇯🇵 and South Korea 🇰🇷 in a move that China 🇨🇳 has repudiated.

This will be first summit between the countries that specifically talks about their shared agenda in the region. The DPRK 🇰🇵 will receive heavy focus but many following the situation believe this is a smokescreen in a larger bid to build a “mini-NATO” against China.

Meanwhile, Chinese State Councilor and Defense Minister Li Shangfu will visit Russia, attend the Moscow Conference on International Security and visit Belarus from August 14 to 19. 

Military alliances between nations in the multipolar world may seem far away, the talks and preparations are underway as the US’s unipolar militarism continues to expand and make new threats to global stability.
