@sutherlandr91 @DefenceBrink @Iromg @CormacS63: No it wasn't - hundreds of years of the Soviet Union and the Russian Empire before it trying subjugate, eliminate or forcibly absorb the Ukrainian people, like many other neighbouring peoples before, as it expanded.
The continuing Russian imperial mindset is at the heart of this.
