Following the launch of Operation 1027 (Part 2) in late June, the MNDAA has started a concerted campaign on Lashio, the state capital. This post will summarise what we know and suspect about the current situation in the city.
Lashio is a major garrison city, containing around 20 military bases including the North-East Area Command and 7 combat battalions.
Following the capture of the Nampawng LIB-291, around 25km to the south-east of the city on July 5th, MNDAA troops have entered and established positions in the south-eastern Wards 5 & 7 of the city, surrounding the 507th LIB HQ.
Regarding LIB-507, there were reports in pro-Resistance media last night that the base had been captured by the MNDAA. My impression of that reporting is that MNDAA troops had entered part of the base (likely the sleeping quarters and the outlying Commando Hill), but had not captured or cleared the...
