80 years ago today, May 8th 1945, the German forces in Norway surrendered and we were free once again.

This is our Liberation Day and also our Veterans Day.

Not everyone experienced the elation of liberation.

Crewmen of the Norwegian merchant fleet, our most important contribution to Allied victory, trickled home long after the parties, to a country that didn't understand nor recognize their sacrifices until too many decades later.

IMO, we also must acknowledge and honor the enormous sacrifices of the peoples of the Soviet Union, fighting against our then common enemy.

This does NOT mean supporting how history is used politically today, in Russia and elsewhere
