The position is embedded in the group of Prof. Peter Sollich. The interests of the group lie within the field of non-equilibrium statistical physics, with focus areas including theoretical modelling of soft and active matter rheology and non-equilibrium dynamics on networks. Specific topics include extensions of the soft glassy rheology model to active materials, effects of disorder and heterogeneity in cytoskeletal rheology, non-equilibrium kinetics in complex mixtures and glassy dynamics on sparse random graphs. Divergent networks: a new class of complex systems.

This project will introduce and explore a new class of model weighted networks, “divergent” networks. In these networks the structure described by the links and their weights do not match. Most theoretical work on weighted networks assumes that they do, so little is known about the properties of these divergent networks.
