According to the analytical report of the F2Pool mining pool, up to 13 million video cards (GPUs) were involved in cryptocurrency mining, about 8 million of which are currently active.
🔽GPU miners mainly focused on ETH and ZEC before the Equihash ASIC miners appeared in July 2018. F2Pool specialists made their calculation based on the peaks of ETH (290 Th / s) and ZEC (500 Msol / s) hash rates at the end of July and the assumption that only the most popular models, Radeon RX470 and Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060, were used for mining.
✅The market for industrial GPU mining at its peak with 13 million video cards, taking into account the creation of the necessary infrastructure and other investments, was estimated by F2Pool at $ 3 billion.
Nevertheless, based on the hashrate of the coins that are most profitable for mining on the GPU (ETH, Grin, Beam and RVN), F2Pool concluded that about 8 million video cards are now working. After deploying the ASIC miners of the Equihash algorithm, the revenue from ZEC mining on the GPU fell so much that analysts excluded this coin from the calculations.
Based on the analysis of F2Pool, since July last year, along with falling prices for cryptocurrencies, more than 30% of video cards or about 5 million were deduced from the mine. The pool experts believe that some of the devices were sold on the secondary market to gamers, and some may be again involved in mining cryptocurrency with the onset of the rainy season in China.
