Idioms and phrases 8.15.2016 :
▶️The school is rather "badly off for" equipment.
badly off for something (British English)= not having enough of something that you need [≠ well-off].
▶️With staff shortages and appalling weather conditions, the emergency services were "at full stretch". = using everything that is available
▶️bored stiff/to tears/to death/out of your mind (=extremely bored)
▶️The book had been well used and finally "fell to pieces".
fall to pieces/bits = to break into many pieces [= fall apart].
▶️I'm not "making fun of" you. I admire what you did = to make unkind, insulting remarks about someone or something.
▶️We struggle on,"living from day to day "(=trying to find enough money each day to buy food etc).

▶️Psychic awareness" ran in my blood". = be/run in somebody's blood ::: if an ability or tendency is in, or runs in, someone's blood, it is natural to them and others in their family.
