SR 71 flyby #972 Flight was (flown by Ed Yielding and Tom Fuhrman.)over Burbank as a salute to Kelly Johnson, Ben Rich, and Skunk work employees. Ben Rich had picked up Kelly Johnson in a limousine and took him to Burbank from the hospital. He wanted him to see his magnificent Creation One more time. Ben Rich was the President of the Skunk Works, the position that Kelly Johnson held for years. Ben said that Kelly looked up when he heard the sonic boom of the SR 71. He looked at Kelly and saw a tear slowly dripping down his face.
Kelly Johnson, a true avionics genius, died December 21, 1990.

Lockheed A-12 (SR-71 Blackbird predecessor) wind-tunnel test models at NASA Langley, showing an interesting canard configuration as well as the more familiar configuration that was ultimately used. Seeing a SR-71/A-12 without the inlet spikes is super weird.
