Recently De classified United States National Archive photos show a previously thought fictional aircraft was in fact an experimental front line attack fighter.
Unfortunately the prototype suffered catastrophic damage when test pilot Lt Brian Williams attempted to land with S foils extended while trapping aboard USS Long Island, off Palmyra, 25 Jul 1942. When questioned during debrief, Lt Williams responded "I was there!"
