๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ฉ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ฌ Sudan RSF leader visits Uganda in first known wartime foreign trip

The leader of Sudanโ€™s paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo said he met Uganda's President Yoweri Museveni, his first confirmed appearance outside of Sudan since the war between RSF and the Sudanese army broke out in April.

Dagalo said on X the two discussed developments in Sudan, as well as his vision for negotiations to end the war. Museveni confirmed the meeting in a post on X, saying he welcomed Dagalo to his country home Rwakitura.

Sudan's foreign ministry said in a statement on Wednesday that Dagalo was not able to travel to Djibouti for a planned initial meeting with Sudan's army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan.

The meeting, which was meant to help find an end to the war, is to be rescheduled to an unspecified date in January due to "technical issues," the statement said.

At least 40 people have died following the explosion of a gas tanker in north-central Liberia, the West African country's chief medical officer, Francis Kateh, said on Wednesday.

Dozens of people are still in hospital with serious burns, and the death toll could rise, Kateh told.

๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ฌ Around 200 people killed in Christmas Eve attacks on remote villages in Nigeria

At least 190 people were killed and others are missing after a series of attacks by gunmen on remote villages in north-central Nigeriaโ€™s Plateau state.

Officials and survivors confirmed the Christmas Eve attacks. People said the gangs launched "well-coordinated" attacks in "not fewer than 20 different communities" and torched houses on Saturday and Sunday. Gunfire was still heard on Monday morning. Citizens already call it a "Black Christmas".

More than 300 wounded people have reportedly been taken to hospitals. There are fears of a higher death toll as some people remain unaccounted for.

Witnesses said it took more than 12 hours before security agencies responded.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attacks, though blame fell on herders from the Fulani tribe, who have been carrying out such mass killings of Christians across the northwest and central regions.

๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฌ UAE concludes trade talks with Republic of Congo

The United Arab Emirates has completed negotiations for a bilateral trade agreement with the Republic of Congo, the second such deal announced with an African state in a week.

"The breadth of the UAE's trade network continues to broaden as we conclude negotiations toward a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement with the Republic of Congo-Brazzaville - a thriving economy in West-Central Africa and valued trade and investment partner," Thani Al Zeyoudi, UAE trade minister said.

Last week, the UAE, a major global oil exporter and OPEC member, completed talks for a trade deal with Mauritius, its first with an African country.

๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ฑ Egypt says it is awaiting responses on plan to end Gaza war

Egypt confirmed on Thursday that it had put forward a framework proposal to end the conflict between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip that includes three stages ending with a ceasefire, and said it was awaiting responses on the plan.

Egypt would give further details of the plan once those responses are received, Diaa Rashwan, head of Egypt's State Information Service, said in a statement.

The proposal is an attempt "to bring viewpoints between all concerned parties closer, in an effort to stop Palestinian bloodshed and the aggression against the Gaza Strip and restore peace and stability to the region," he said.

Egyptian security sources had previously said the proposal included a multi-stage ceasefire involving prisoner releases by Israel and Hamas.

๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ฉ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡น Sudan RSF leader visits Ethiopia in first public wartime tour

The leader of Sudan's paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo visited Ethiopia's capital Addis Ababa on Thursday in the second leg of a rare publicly-announced foreign tour.

Ethiopia's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Demeke Mekonnen met Dagalo, commonly known as Hemedti, at Ethiopia's Bole International Airport on Thursday.

There are also pictures of his arrival and a meeting with Demeke and the prime minister of Ethiopia Abiy Ahmed. There a no information what sides will talk about. However, we can assume that Ahmed will try to raise the topic of Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam. Maybe he will try to trade his help to RSF for convenient agreement regarding the dam if RSF win the Sudan's war.

Hemedti visited Uganda yesterday and met President Yoweri Museveni at his country home in Rwakitura and discussed, among other things, ways to put an end to the continued conflict in Sudan, said the Ugandan Broadcasting Corporation.

๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฉ DR Congo government rules out election re-run demanded by opposition

Democratic Republic of Congo will not cancel the results of last week's presidential election despite repeated calls from the opposition for a full re-run of the disputed vote, government spokesperson Patrick Muyaya said.

Police forcibly broke up a banned march on Wednesday in the capital Kinshasa by people protesting against the way the presidential and legislative election was conducted. The opposition has said there were widespread irregularities and fraud. The CENI election commission denies this.

Muyaya said that the opposition should wait until full results are published and challenge them in the courts if necessary.

๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡น Aerial strike on Ethiopia church grounds kills eight

An aerial strike on the grounds of a church in Ethiopia's Oromiya region killed eight people and injured five as they collected corn, two witnesses and an opposition political party said.

Government spokesperson Legesse Tulu dismissed the accounts of the air strike as "an absolute lie".

The compound of the Baro Full Gospel Church in the Horo Gudru Wellega zone, around 200 km northwest of the capital Addis Ababa, was attacked on Monday morning, when people were gathering to collect corn from a field, witnesses said.

๐Ÿ‡ง๐Ÿ‡ฏ๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ช Benin removes suspension of transiting goods to Niger

Benin has lifted its suspension of imported goods transiting to Niger through the port of Cotonou, the port's director general said.

Sanctions by ECOWAS have led to the closure of the border with Benin, which has seen a fall in revenues after the transport of goods to Niger via its ports was halted.

"The measure relating to the suspension of imported goods destined for Niger at the port of Cotonou has been lifted," said the port's director general Bart Jozef Johan Van Eenoo.

The measure was taken "in view of the substantial improvement in the operational conditions for handling goods at the port of Cotonou, in particular the reduction in the rate of congestion," he added.

The move comes almost a week after Benin President Patrice Talon called for relations to be swiftly re-established between his country and neighbouring Niger.

๐Ÿ‡ท๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ง๐Ÿ‡ซ Russia reopens embassy in Burkina Faso

Russia has reopened its embassy in Burkina Faso after it was shut more than 30 years ago, officials have said.

Russian President Vladimir Putin announced plans to reopen the embassy during the Russia-Africa summit in St Petersburg in July.

The embassy was closed in 1992 as Moscow reduced its involvement in Africa following the end of the Cold War and the collapse of the Soviet Union.

The embassy was reopened at a ceremony in Burkina Faso's capital, Ouagadougou, Russia's state-owned news agency Tass reported.

Russia has not yet named the head of the mission.
