๐ฉ๐ฟ๐จ๐ณ Algeriaโs army chief of staff visits China, seeks to diversify sources of military supplies
The Chief of Staff of the Algerian Army, Lieutenant General Said Chengriha, arrived in the Chinese capital, Beijing, for an official visit at the head of a military delegation.
He was received by Army General Liu Zhenli, Chief of Staff of the Joint Staff Department of the Central Military Commission of the Peopleโs Republic of China. He also met with several companies representatives.
The visit of Chengriha to China came amid an Algerian army push for the diversification of its sources of armament in order to wean itself from dependence on Russia.
The West voiced strong reservations about Algeria proving Russia with a strong infusion of cash in exchange of weapons. Algeria is also opening up to new markets, as Moscow is increasingly unable to meet demand for arms supplies when the Algerian defence sector is expected to rise.

๐ณ๐ฆ๐จ๐ฉ๐ฟ๐ผ๐จ๐ณ Workers in Namibia, DR Congo and Zimbabwe complain about living conditions and unsafe work practices at lithium mines operated by Chinese companies
At a Chinese-run lithium mine in Namibia, DRC and Zimbabwe, local workers have complained for months about squalid living conditions and unsafe work practices.
Local unions found that the mines' local employees live in tiny, hot shacks made of corrugated zinc and without proper ventilation. By contrast, Chinese workers have comfortable air-conditioned rooms and decent bathrooms.
Unions also criticized Xinfeng Investments for failing to provide protective clothing and ensure adequate safety measures were in place for local workers.
Reports also document human rights abuses, corruption and displacement of people.
With demand for lithium expected to boom many countries and companies are racing to secure access to lithium in Africa. At the same time most countries on the continent don't have systems in place to ensure that the country can generate revenue for the benefits.

๐ต๐ธ๐ช๐ฌ Medical relief should be focused inside Gaza said Egyptian minister
Work on providing medical relief for Palestinians from the Gaza Strip should be concentrated within the besieged enclave, Egypt's foreign minister said.
Egypt has received limited numbers of medical evacuees from Gaza through the Rafah crossing this month, most of whom have been taken to Egyptian hospitals for treatment.
"We have to concentrate on getting medical facilities established inside of Gaza so it can be more accessible to Palestinians who are in need for medical assistance," Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry said.
Attempts were being made to plan the evacuation of Al Shifa hospital in northern Gaza and that the transfer of some patients to Egypt was an option, a U.N. official said.
