๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡น Tigray Region Interim Administration terminates four top TPLF officials

President of the Tigray Interim Administration, Getachew Reda sacked four senior leadership members of Tigray Peoplesโ€™ Liberation Front (TPLF) from power.

Most likely, the extraordinary measure taken by the New Administration to clean the political arena off the old TPLF guards probably shows the tense situation between the Interim Administration of Getachew Reda and the TPLF Camp.

The letters of termination dated October 28, 2023 expressed appreciation to the officials for the service they gave to the government.

President of Tigray Interim Administration, Getachew Reda has so far removed ten senior and intermediate TPLF members from their respective positions in the Administration.

๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ฌ Ruling party wins Nigeria state election amid boycott

Nigeria's ruling party has overwhelmingly won the governorship election in the south-eastern Imo, Bayelsa and Kogi states amid a boycott by some voters.

For example, Hope Uzodinma of the All Progressives Congress won with more than 540,000 votes in Imo state - his closest rival had 71,500.

Saturday's elections in three states saw reports of violence and rigging.

These elections are seen as a test of how much confidence people have in the country's electoral process after February's presidential election results were challenged by the two main opposition candidates.

The elections in these three states were postponed from February due to security reasons, since the south of Nigeria suffer from armed separatists movement "Indigenous People of Biafra".

๐Ÿ‡ฐ๐Ÿ‡ช Activists call for reduction in plastic production ahead of Nairobi talks

Hundreds of environmental campaigners march in the Kenyan capital demanding drastic curbs on plastic production, ahead of a meeting in the city to negotiate a global plastics treaty.

Representatives from more than 170 nations will meet in Nairobi from Monday to negotiate what concrete measures should be included in a binding worldwide treaty to end plastic pollution.

"There is a lot of talk about end of pipeline solutions which we do not need right now. Investing in more of them divert the focus away from what we really need to do, which is mandating ambitious targets on plastics reduction," said protesters.

Marchers called for the talks to focus on cutting the amount of plastic produced and waved placards reading "Plastic crisis = climate crisis" and "End multigenerational toxic exposure".

๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฎ Ex-Ivorian prime minister announces end of exile

Former Ivory Coast Prime Minister Guillaume Soro, who took himself into exile in 2019, says he plans to return home despite having two criminal convictions.

He said that he wanted to go back because it was hard "to live far from my ancestral land of Africa".

He added that he wanted to "contribute to the reconciliation" of the country.

In 2021, an Ivorian court sentenced Soro in absentia to life imprisonment for undermining national security.

The previous year, he had been sentenced to 20 years on charges relating to the embezzlement of public funds.

Both convictions happened while Soro was in self-imposed exile, which began in December 2019. Soro said, he was "guilty of no crime".

Soro did not specify the date for his return, but announced that he intends to run in Ivory Coast's 2025 presidential elections.

๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡ฒ China calls on Zambia's creditors to take "fair burden" in debt restructuring

China called on Zambia's other creditors to shoulder a "fair burden" in the country's debt restructuring, after the IMF and official creditors including Beijing "expressed reservations" about a deal Zambia struck with overseas bondholders.

Zambia and a bondholder committee were continuing talks, the copper producer's finance ministry said after the official creditor committee co-chaired by China and France and the International Monetary Fund had voiced their doubts over the "last several days".

"All creditors should work together and participate in Zambia's debt disposal in accordance with the principle of 'common action and fair burden'," China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

The aid consignment included food, medical supplies and medicines, according to a report by the Iranian state-run television.

Egypt has apologized for receiving any Iranian humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip.

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian has urged Egypt to distribute its aid to the people of Gaza.

The top Iranian diplomat said that he had "told Foreign Minister of Egypt Sameh Shoukry: today is our test day and Egypt is expected to open the Rafah crossing to send water, medicine and food to Gaza."

South Africa's biggest telecoms operator Vodacom reported a 4.2% drop in half-year earnings on Monday, hit by the cost of starting operations in Ethiopia and higher interest rates.

The company, which is majority owned by Britain's Vodafone, co-launched Safaricom Ethiopia last year, betting that the populous nation will power growth after about five years of investment.

Group CEO Shameel Joosub said Safaricom Ethiopia has already reached 4.1 million customers and more recently it launched its mobile financial services business M-Pesa there.

๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡ฌ Madagascar's Rajoelina seeks re-election after weeks of opposition protests

Madagascar's president is set to seek re-election on Thursday in the face of weeks of protests by opposition groups who say he is ineligible to run and the vote should be delayed.

Andry Rajoelina rose to power in a 2009 coup that scared off investors in Madagascar. He stepped down after almost five years as leader of a transitional authority and then became president after winning a 2018 election.

In a recent statement, Rajoelina emphasized his administration's efforts to address Madagascar's development challenges. He stated, "I've done everything to catch up with Madagascar's development lag, we've built and developed infrastructure close to the population that the population needs."

Officials said they were pressing ahead with plans for Thursday's first-round ballot despite the leader of the lower house of parliament's and opposition's calls to postpone them.

๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡น๐Ÿ‡น๐Ÿ‡ฟ Ethiopia's Oromo rebels in Tanzania for peace talks

Rebels from Ethiopia's Oromiya region said on Monday they were in Tanzania for a second round of talks with the Ethiopian government to try to end decades of fighting.

The negotiations come more than six months after a first round of discussions between the Oromo Liberation Army (OLA) and Ethiopia's government ended without an agreement.

"We remain committed to finding a peaceful political settlement," the OLA said in its statement.

The OLA said it had delayed announcing the negotiations to make sure its team could get safely from what it called the frontlines in Oromiya to the venue.

An official said the talks started last week in Tanzania's commercial capital, Dar es Salaam, and is being facilitated by the regional Africa group IGAD.

At least 70 civilians have been killed, mainly elderly people and children, in an attack on a village in northern Burkina Faso earlier this month, a prosecutor said in a statement on Monday.

Unidentified assailants attacked the village of Zaongo in Burkina Faso's northern Centre-North region on November 5, killing residents and setting property on fire.

The exact number of deaths, injured and missing has yet to be determined, it added.

"The authors of these atrocities remain unknown. Investigations are ongoing," the statement said.
