๐ฐ๐ช Kenyan anti-government protests resume
Kenyan police fired tear gas at a group of protesters in the capital Nairobi on Tuesday as the opposition resumed anti-government demonstrations following a one-month pause.
The main opposition coalition organised demonstrations in March to protest high living costs and alleged fraud in last year's election, which its leader Raila Odinga lost to President William Ruto.
Police have clashed with protesters in some parts of the city, but most areas have remained calm. In the central business district, some protest leaders were dispersed by police with teargas. Police have been deployed around the city to maintain security.
In the western counties of Kisumu and Homa Bay, protesters blocked some roads by lighting fires. All around the capital vehicles and tires were torched.
Many shops were closed with traders wary of the looting and destruction witnessed during previous protests.

๐ธ๐ฉ WHO says risk "moderate" after laboratory in Sudan seized by fighters
The World Health Organization said on Tuesday it had found after a risk assessment that there was a "moderate risk" related to the seizure of a public health laboratory in Sudan's capital Khartoum by RFS.
"The situation and the risk are being seen as moderate," WHO spokesperson Tarik Jasarevic told.
"This is because the lab cannot provide its main function, that is to provide the analysis and the diagnostics because of the lack of fuel and lack of trained staff."

๐ธ๐ฉ Sudan rival factions agree to a week-long truce
Sudan's warring military factions agreed on Tuesday in principle to a seven-day ceasefire from Thursday.
A statement released by the foreign ministry of South Sudan, which had offered to mediate in the conflict, said its President Salva Kiir stressed the importance of a longer truce and of naming envoys to peace talks, to which both sides had agreed.
The credibility of the reported May 4-11 deal ceasefire deal between rival factions is unclear, given the rampant violations that undermined previous agreements running from 24 to 72 hours.

๐ฟ๐ฆ South Africa ends G4S's contract over jail break
South Africaโs prison authority has issued notice to terminate a contract with the multinational security firm G4S.
The company is responsible for running Mangaung Prison from where convicted rapist and murderer Thabo Bester escaped last May by faking his own death and planting a corpse in his cell.
The escape only came to light last month - until then it was thought Bester had died in a mysterious blaze in his cell.
G4S has admitted to security breaches at the facility but would not take responsibility for Besterโs embarrassing escape.
Its contract to run the prison was set to end in 2026. However, Minister of Justice Ronald Lamola told he was ending the contract early on the advice of lawyers.

๐ธ๐ณ Senegalese opposition leader calls for civil disobedience against judiciary
Senegalese main opposition leader Ousmane Sonko has called for national civil disobedience against the judiciary and further rejected any dialogue against President Macky Sall. Sonko on the other hand denounced claims that he was undermining the justice system.
Sonkko and his supporters accuse the government of using the justice system to prevent him from running for president in February 2024. The presidential party accuses Mr. Sonko of wanting to paralyze the country and of using the street to escape justice.
Sonko last month had claimed his life was in danger and that he had evidence showing he was to be assassinated on March 16th on his way to court to face charges of rape allegations.
