πŸ‡¬πŸ‡ Ghanaian army's stormed the town of Ashaiman after soldier was killed

Soldiers unleashed mayhem on some residents of Ashaiman on Tuesday with helicopters flying over the area because a young military officer was allegedly stabbed in the town on Saturday, March 4, 2023.

The operation in the area to find the killers of a military man was sanctioned by its high command.

A local member of the parliament said about 184 people were arrested in the operation.

"If decent, innocent residents of Ashaiman were caught up in these operations, I, in my capacity as deputy defence minister, I apologise for that, " Ghana's Deputy Defence Minister said. "It is only proper that we admit when there are excesses in operations of this nature. But we are not going to apologise for undertaking the operations."

πŸ‡¨πŸ‡© DR Congo "attempt" to delay polls angers opposition

The opposition in the Democratic Republic of Congo has expressed outrage over President Felix Tshisekedi's "attempt" to postpone the 20 December general elections over persistent insecurity in the east.

"The situation in the east of the country should not constitute an excuse for the president to postpone the elections," the spokesperson for opposition politician Moise Katumbi said.

Spokesperson reminded Tshisekedi of the promise he made in the early days of his presidency to set up the army headquarters in the east in an effort to effectively deal with armed groups.

"Four years later, the regime is still unable to restore peace in this part of the country," he added.

πŸ‡ΏπŸ‡Ό Zimbabwe court blocks release of electronic voters' roll

A high court in Zimbabwe has blocked the release of electronic voters' roll to the public citing national security concerns that would expose the document to manipulation.

This follows a court case filed by opposition member of parliament Allan Makharm after the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) refused to give him a copy that he requested in October last year.

Makharm said the electronic copy was ideal for scrutiny as the printed version would be inconvenient and too expensive for him.

However, the Harare High Court on Tuesday said the voters' roll was a sensitive document to be released to the public without addressing security concerns raised by Zec.

πŸ‡³πŸ‡¬ Nigerian court rejects bid to stop reconfiguration of voting system for governorship polls

A Nigerian judge on Wednesday refused a request by one opposition candidate who lost last month's presidential election to stop the electoral body from reconfiguring a voting system for state elections.

Opposition challenger Peter Obi of the Labour Party said a reconfiguration will destroy the evidence for his case after he lost the presidential election to the candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress party, Bola Tinubu.

The Independent National Electoral Commission asked the court for an order to reconfigure its Bimodal Voter Accreditation System that uses fingerprints and facial recognition which was previously used for the presidential vote for governorship election on March 11.
