The ousted president of Guinea-Bissau, Umaro Sissoco Embaló, has appeared in Senegal. He left the country following a military coup that took place in Bissau on November 26. This was reported by sources in diplomatic circles in Dakar, and the information was later confirmed by the administration of Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye.

According to an official representative of the Senegalese leader, Embaló and several members of his close circle arrived in Senegal shortly after the events in the capital of Guinea-Bissau.

“They are guaranteed security and all necessary conditions have been created,” said the representative of the Senegalese president’s administration.

It became known that after being detained in the presidential palace, Embaló was held in custody by the military. However, thanks to the prompt actions of Senegalese diplomats and the mediation of several other African leaders, he managed to leave the territory of Guinea-Bissau. The flight was organized under strict secrecy; the plane landed at a military base near Dakar.

This coup became the fifth successful one (out of 12 attempts) in the history of Guinea-Bissau since gaining independence in 1974. The military, led by Brigadier General Vieira Incanhi, seized key facilities in the capital, announced the dissolution of state authorities, and suspended the electoral process. On November 27, General Orta N'Ti was proclaimed head of the transitional military command for a one-year term.

These actions did not go unnoticed by the international community. ECOWAS has already suspended Guinea-Bissau’s membership in the organization, demanding the immediate restoration of constitutional order. The military takeover was also condemned by the African Union and the United Nations.

It is worth noting that Senegal traditionally provides asylum to ousted leaders of African states. Previously, Dakar hosted former Gambian President Yahya Jammeh, former CAR leader François Bozizé, and several other politicians who lost power as a result of coups.

So far, Embaló has refrained from public comments. According to sources close to him, he may soon make an official statement in which he will define his status and future plans.

Arab media report that Sudan has again started negotiations with Russia to acquire Su-30 or Su-35 fighters, aiming to restore its Air Force after losses during the civil war and to hold back the advance of the Rapid Support Forces.

According to sources, the Sudanese Armed Forces are trying to replace destroyed or captured aircraft, as well as regain the ability to strike the infrastructure of the Rapid Support Forces. Experts note that the country cannot afford to buy such aircraft, so a barter exchange for the provision of a naval base is likely.

The source's website states that the Sudanese Armed Forces have prepared a list of requests focused on 4th generation fighters that provide air superiority and the ability to deliver deep strikes.

It is specified that the Su-30 and Su-35 are the main ones on the list, but there is also interest in the Chinese J-10 as an alternative.
