Update from NE Syria: atrocities unfolding
Around 15.000 people are now being forcefully held in #Shehba canton by Turkish-backed militias. They are not allowed access to water or food. Further they have forcefully abducted hundreds of people (120 cars - see SDF statement below). As the accounts of violences have increased over the past days, fear of further atrocities and massacres is also increasing. Militias have also looted & burned the houses of the people who fled. Turkish mercenaries continued their shelling of Manbij, injuring civilians and martyring at least 2 civilians.
On the other side, more and more people are rising up and showing solidarity. The Armenian community have followed the call for general mobilization and have announced the foundation of an Armenian Military Force. The Congress for Democratic Islam has opened mosques as shelters for the fleeing people. Several Kurdish and Arabic ashirets have declared that they firmly stand behind SDF.

SDF statement: Large-Scale Kidnapping Campaign by Turkish-Backed Mercenaries in Shahba'a
Turkish-backed mercenaries have launched a large-scale kidnapping and enslavement campaign against civilians besieged in the Shahbaโa region, north of Aleppo. Over 120 vehicles carrying hundreds of civilians, who were attempting to evacuate to areas in north and eastern Syria, were abducted and taken to an unknown destination near the Sheikh Najjar area. This action comes two days after these groups obstructed a previously agreed-upon civilian evacuation.
Furthermore, with the aim of enslavement, these groups have detained over fifteen thousand civilians and abducted a large number of them. The besieged civilians are enduring harsh conditions, facing starvation and water shortages.

The young man, who came with his mother and two sisters says that they are still looking for his father. He recounts that he eye-witnessed how militias were burning a corpse, warming themselves on the fire.

Update of developments in North Syria since yesterday
Yesterday Head of SDF Mazloum Abdi iterated its readiness for dialogue with all parties to solve the Syrian crisis. He further stated that SDF has set up communication channels with HTS through the coalition in regards to getting the people held in Shehba out. He also pointed out again that ISIS has taken over some areas in east Syria were regime forces had left. He confirmed that although SDF forces prefer dialogue, they are pledging to protect all people in its region and are ready to response militarily against any attacks. Rohilat Afrin, Member of YPJ General command stated: โno matter what names the different gangs have, we know the Turkish state is behind it.
The AANES has invited journalists to come to Rojava to report on the situation."

Attacks by Turkish mercenaries intensify
Turkish mercenaries have intensified their attacks on #Manbij region. Over the day the region has been bombed over 20 times. Manbij Security Council that until now it was able to defeat all attacks. In the past hours attacks from 3 sides took place. Military Council of al-Bab stated that fighting erupted with Turkish mecernaires but that it also defeated attacks. Til Temir was also being bombed today.
Yesterday the International Security Focres (Asayish) announced that one fighter was martyred and 2 injured in attack by ISIS. In the last hour another attack by ISIS in the city Shedadi has killed to soldiers.
Deir az-Zor free of regime forces
SDF has announced that its forces have taken control of the entire city of Deir az-Zor as regime forces have left the city. Previously only parts of the city, West of the Euphrates were liberated.

In Eyn Issa a demonstration took place. Youth of Til Hemise joined the call for a general mobilisation. People in Heseke the people commemorated 3 comrades from Afrin and Shehba who had been martyred in Shehba by Turkish mercenaries. In many cities people are collecting goods to support the displaced people from Shehba.
In many European countries โ Belgium, France, Switzerland, Netherlands, protest have taken place in support of Rojava.

In Manbij region heavy fighting taking place between Turkish-mercenary forces and SDF fores (Manbij Military Council). MMC reported being attacked in the city and that gangs were in the city. Additionally Turkey began to bomb the region with air planes.

Update: Fighters of the Manbij and Al-Bab Military Councils are actively resisting attacks by Turkish occupation mercenaries on the city of Manbij and its surrounding areas. Dozens of mercenaries have been eliminated and injured in these clashes.
To mask their failures, mercenary-affiliated media outlets have claimed control over large parts of Manbij. This information is false, and our forces, however, continue their efforts to protect the area and its people through various military methods.

For several days, the Turkish occupation and its mercenaries have intensified their attacks on our regions and cities. Over the past four days, these attacks have escalated significantly, with mercenaries launching large-scale attacks using substantial numbers and advanced weaponry, including UAVs provided by the Turkish occupation state. More than ten Akinji UAVs have actively participated in these attacks, which are being led and directed by Turkish military commanders.
Four days ago, the fighters of the Manbij Military Council successfully repelled the brutal attacks of the Turkish occupation state's mercenaries, dealing strong blows to them.
In response to these large-scale attacks, our forces have transitioned to the second phase of our defense strategy against the Turkish occupation and its mercenaries. We will employ diverse tactics and methods to disorient the enemy and make him ultimately regret initiating these attacks on our territories.
We the forces of Manbij Military Council are determined to hold the Turkish occupation and its mercenaries accountable for their actions against the city of Manbij. These savage mercenaries and thieves, incapable of confronting our forces directly, resort to targeting civilians, including women and children. We will ensure that they are held accountable for their heinous crimes. We pledge to protect our beautiful city and its surrounding areas from these brutal mercenaries and the Turkish occupation.

Summary - what happenend since 8.12.?
As the world woke up to find the Assad regime defeated, people in Rojava also took to the streets. The Assad regime still held small pockets in Qamishlo (such as an airport) and Heseke city (entailing also a hospital and university). As the regime fell, people were celebrating and crushing Assad statues.
Asayish (Internal Security Forces) have taken control of the govโt buildings and AANES has called for general state of emergency and a curfew (8pm-8am) in fears of sleeper cells becoming active.
