Turkish occupational policies: white genocide and the fight against the Rojava revolution
In 2016, when SDF forces were at war with ISIS, Turkey and the SNA occupied the area of al-Bab/Azaz/Jarablus Triangle, which never belonged to the AANES. Its occupation was strategic as Turkey did not want the SDF forces to take control of the region which would have connected the three cantons of the AANES.
In 2019 Turkey and its mercenaries occupied another part of the AANES, between Serekaniye and Gire Spi ("M4 strip"). Although its regional history and demography prior to the occupation was different to Afrin, with the Kurdish, Yazidi and Alawite minorities population ranging between 50% and 35%, it has since faced the same faith – an exodus of people, influx of other people and a policy of white genocide.

Overall, it is clear that Turkey’s main agenda in Syria has been to fight the aspirations of Kurdish people (and others) for liberation from occupation, colonialist and assimilationist politics and to undermine the achievements of the Rojava revolution that is based on the principles of direct democracy, women’s liberation and ecological sustainability.
Current invasion of Shehba
Erdogan announced publicly in 2022 that he seeks to invade an occupy Tel Rifaat, the main city of Shehba canton. Thus, the current invasion of the city has to been seen in the context of its wider and long-term genocidal and expansionist politics as stated above. With 200.000 people now fleeing the Shehba region, Turkey seeks to crush the previous efforts of the people in setting up self-administration and destroy their hope for a future liberation of Afrin. With this new occupation, all areas West of Minbij canton that were previously self-administered are now occupied by Turkey & its mercenaries.

Update of today’s developments in Syria
People fleeing the SNA in Shehba are slowly arriving in Tebqa & Raqqa, however thousands remain on the way and are still waiting to leave. In many cities organisations have called for solidarity, people are organising aid and are pledging to defend their soil.
Turkish mercenaries have today continued their shelling of villages around Minbij. Shelling in canton Euphrates and Kobane were also reported
Media today confirmed violence by Turkish mercenaries in Shehba and Afrin canton against civilians. Near Aleppo a family car was attacked, killing a father and his son, injuring the mother and daughter.
20 civilians, including women, that had returned from Shehba to Afrin have been abducted.
Within the 7 days of fighting in Aleppo, Hama and Idlib 571 people have been killed, 98 of which are civilians.

Yesterday head of Turkish far-right MHP, Devlet Bahçeli, announced that he hopes Manbij will be the next city to be occupied. Turkish media is claiming for days that its mercenaries will began an operation against Manbij. As the map shows, Manbij is now the only AANES canton west of Euphrates, bordering the ares occupied by Turkish mercenaries.
Last night #SDF announced that it thwarted an attack by Turkish mercenaries in Manbij, who tried to infiltrate our areas. Today the mercenaries have increased their attacks on villages around Manbij, attacking 6 villages in the last hour.

Around 15.000 people are now being forcefully held in #Shehba canton by Turkish-backed militias. They are not allowed access to water or food. Further they have forcefully abducted hundreds of people (120 cars - see SDF statement below). As the accounts of violences have increased over the past days, fear of further atrocities and massacres is also increasing. Militias have also looted & burned the houses of the people who fled. Turkish mercenaries continued their shelling of Manbij, injuring civilians and martyring at least 2 civilians.
On the other side, more and more people are rising up and showing solidarity. The Armenian community have followed the call for general mobilization and have announced the foundation of an Armenian Military Force. The Congress for Democratic Islam has opened mosques as shelters for the fleeing people. Several Kurdish and Arabic ashirets have declared that they firmly stand behind SDF.

SDF statement: Large-Scale Kidnapping Campaign by Turkish-Backed Mercenaries in Shahba'a
Turkish-backed mercenaries have launched a large-scale kidnapping and enslavement campaign against civilians besieged in the Shahba’a region, north of Aleppo. Over 120 vehicles carrying hundreds of civilians, who were attempting to evacuate to areas in north and eastern Syria, were abducted and taken to an unknown destination near the Sheikh Najjar area. This action comes two days after these groups obstructed a previously agreed-upon civilian evacuation.
Furthermore, with the aim of enslavement, these groups have detained over fifteen thousand civilians and abducted a large number of them. The besieged civilians are enduring harsh conditions, facing starvation and water shortages.

Update of developments in North Syria since yesterday
Yesterday Head of SDF Mazloum Abdi iterated its readiness for dialogue with all parties to solve the Syrian crisis. He further stated that SDF has set up communication channels with HTS through the coalition in regards to getting the people held in Shehba out. He also pointed out again that ISIS has taken over some areas in east Syria were regime forces had left. He confirmed that although SDF forces prefer dialogue, they are pledging to protect all people in its region and are ready to response militarily against any attacks. Rohilat Afrin, Member of YPJ General command stated: “no matter what names the different gangs have, we know the Turkish state is behind it.
The AANES has invited journalists to come to Rojava to report on the situation."

Turkish mercenaries have intensified their attacks on #Manbij region. Over the day the region has been bombed over 20 times. Manbij Security Council that until now it was able to defeat all attacks. In the past hours attacks from 3 sides took place. Military Council of al-Bab stated that fighting erupted with Turkish mecernaires but that it also defeated attacks. Til Temir was also being bombed today.
Yesterday the International Security Focres (Asayish) announced that one fighter was martyred and 2 injured in attack by ISIS. In the last hour another attack by ISIS in the city Shedadi has killed to soldiers.

SDF has announced that its forces have taken control of the entire city of Deir az-Zor as regime forces have left the city. Previously only parts of the city, West of the Euphrates were liberated.
