Oh, to cast one's mind back to those difficult days--before the ghastly Industrial Revolution--when fires absolutely refused to give off any heat.

James Corbett's outstanding work has not gone, and did not go, unnoticed; even in 1964.

As always, the Annual Fake News Awards are well worth listening to:

This is pretty amazing - UN special rapporteurs have expressed grave concern about the UK's detention and arrest of independent journalists and activists - including myself - under counter-terror legislation, and demanded answers from the government. Let's see what happens...

In overhearing a telephone conversation this morning, it turned out I was breakfasting next to the man who cleaned Downing Street at dawn.

Conversation was duly opened, with a request for comment on my assumption that it must have been filthy.

A charming fellow, and one I would far sooner see on the inside of Number 10 than the current resident; having handed over his hi-vis overalls on the way in.

Addendum: A parting salute turned into a longer exchange, the result of which is that he now has my UKC business card and several recommendations for content requiring immediate attention. He sees through the nonsense, even the Trump nonsense, and his closing remarks (on immigration (he is from Chicago)) included a witticism picked up during his college days:

"Don't hate someone for the colour of their skin. Get to know them properly, and then you can hate them for lots of other reasons."

Presumably his cover was blown when it became clear he was the only person in the building adhering to the central tenet of the Hippocratic oath.

Jon Cook's raw milk is incredibly good. I know this, because it's the only milk I drink.

Winter is a tough time for a dairy which doesn't rely on grain-based, chemically-tainted feeds.

I know lots of these sorts of appeals are circulated, but if you would like to support a raw milk producer who only deals with the public directly, please see the link below.

I put this under the heading of investment in the world I want to live in.

Did you know.... The BBC issued approximately 36.1 million TV licence enforcement letters to UK households in the financial year 2022–2023.
This equates to nearly 99,000 letters per day. Based on an estimated postage cost of £0.65 per letter, this costs approximately £23.47 million per year.

In my opinion, a great piece by Richard Morrissey, on the perils of weakening the familial unit.

I would say this is a must-read for children, those working with children, anyone with children in their family and those likely to produce children. More or less everyone.

"What makes digital tribes particularly insidious is that they provide what Scruton referred to as a ‘simulacrum’ of belonging: an illusion of community without its true substance.

Unlike familial bonds, which require reciprocal obligations and teach us how to navigate authentic relationships, digital connections enable us to curate our interactions, allowing us to sidestep the very friction that fosters character development and genuine understanding. This superficial sense of belonging renders young people especially susceptible to ideological manipulation."

In 2006, this Statutory Instrument came into effect, 'The Avian Influenza (Vaccination) (England) Regulations'. Section 5 prohibits the use of vaccination against avian influenza in birds.

Section 6 grants emergency powers to vaccinate birds 👉🏼 https://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2006/2703/regulation/6/made

A video from the House of Lords is doing the rounds, in which the noble lady speaking describes the Government as being "out of control". She is, of course, correct. However, this is from a debate on the Public Order Bill 2023, which became the Public Order Act. The Government was a different one, so I would put it that the only amendment to her assertion should be removal of "the", as all Governments are the same.

It is extremely unlikely that you will agree with all that she says, but the essence of her remarks is sound. The fact that her concerns were roundly ignored tells you all you need to know about "liberal democracy".

Baroness Jones of Moulsecoomb

"My Lords, I admire the noble and learned Lord, Lord Hope, for trying to convince us. I support and have signed Amendment 1. I cannot argue the law—I cannot argue how many angels dance on the head of a pin—but I can question the politics. My concern about the politics of the whole Bill is that the Government are seeking to be “regressive” and “repressive”—these words have been used. This is nasty legislation.

You have to ask: is it appropriate for a few dozen protesters? Is this heavy-handed legislation appropriate for that number of people who occasionally disrupt our lives? I would argue that it is not. It is almost as if this legislation is perhaps designed instead to prevent millions of people protesting, because the Government know they have lost the confidence of the public in Britain. In a recent poll, two-thirds of people thought that the Government were corrupt. That suggests that any legislation this Government try to bring in is possibly not very well designed for the majority of people in Britain. They are giving very heavy powers to the police when we have already seen that the public do not trust the police, and they are giving more powers to Ministers—and we do not trust Ministers.

It is very heavy legislation. I am worried that the Government are actually bringing legislation for when there are general strikes and hundreds of thousands of people on the streets protesting about the collapsing and soon-to-be privatised health system or the fact that everybody’s pay is getting squeezed apart from the pay of the bankers and the wealthy. I worry that they are bringing in these laws for far more people that just the protesters. Quite honestly, who would not agree with Insulate Britain? It is the smartest thing we can possibly do if we are worried about our energy crisis. So it seems that the Government are not really focused on the protests we have had so far; they are focusing on protests we might have in the future.

We are going to vote very soon on whether to declare a protest illegal if it disrupts somebody. The whole point of protest is that it disrupts life to some point, so that you notice and start debating it and it gets reported in the newspapers. It is incredibly important, in a sense, that protest is disruptive. I heard the noble and learned Lord, Lord Hope, say that Amendment 1 was not suitable, but I have taken advice from lawyers
and I think it is entirely suitable, so I will be voting for it. My big concern in this House is that we have a Government who are simply out of control. They talk about protesters being out of control, but it is the Government who are out of control."

Farmers need to understand the true nature of what's happening and why it matters. It's not enough to take action without knowing the full picture. Watch UK Column News to gain insight into the false narrative surrounding the so-called climate emergency, which is being used to control the land and rural economy. The system of subsidies, reinforced by food cartels, is increasingly tied to the 'threat' of climate change. As long as farmers fail to challenge this narrative, they remain powerless against the measures being enforced. Get informed and see how this affects everyone.
