BREAKING: Massachusetts State Police launched a homicide investigation after MIT professor Nuno F.G. Loureiro, 47, was found shot in his Brookline home Monday night and pronounced dead Tuesday morning.
Loureiro served as a faculty member in MIT’s Nuclear Science & Engineering and Physics departments and directed the Plasma Science and Fusion Center.
MIT extended sympathies to his family, students, and colleagues, offering community support while withholding further details to respect the ongoing probe.

Milwaukee County Circuit Court Judge Hannah Dugan was charged in a two-count federal indictment that alleges she obstructed official Department of Homeland Security removal proceedings and knowingly concealed the man from immigration authorities at a courthouse in April.
Dugan was found guilty of obstructing federal agents and not guilty of concealing an undocumented immigrant from arrest during an April courthouse incident.

SAN DIEGO – Two teenage gang members pleaded guilty in federal court today to murder and attempted murder charges, admitting they were acting as hired hitmen for the Sinaloa Cartel when they made two attempts in five hours to kill the cartel’s target. Two people were wounded and one was fatally shot during the incidents, first at a Chula Vista restaurant and then at the target’s nearby luxury apartment.
According to their plea agreements, on March 26, 2024, 15-year-olds Andrew Nunez and Johncarlo Quintero—members of the Mexican Mafia-affiliated Westside Wilmas gang from the greater Los Angeles area—drove from Wilmington, California to a Chili’s restaurant in Chula Vista, where their target was dining with his family.

The rare statement from Clinton spokesperson Angel Ureña comes as the Trump administration has attempted to make him the GOP’s new boogeyman in a monthslong saga related to the files that has plagued the White House, sparking sharp rebukes from allies and MAGA firebrands.
“What the Department of Justice has released so far, and the manner in which it did so, makes one thing clear: someone or something is being protected,” Ureña said in the statement. “We do not know whom, what or why. But we do know this: We need no such protection.”
