Jack O'Lanterns and The Tale Of Stingy Jack

The jack-o’-lantern has a long history with Halloween, although these haunting visages haven’t always been carved out of pumpkins.

Their origin comes from an Irish myth about Stingy Jack, who tricked the Devil for his own monetary gain. When Jack died, God didn’t allow him into heaven, and the Devil didn’t let him into hell, so Jack was sentenced to roam the earth for eternity.

In Ireland, people started to carve demonic faces out of turnips to frighten away Jack’s wandering soul. When Irish immigrants moved to the U.S., they began carving jack-o’-lanterns from pumpkins, as these were native to the region.

But how did jack-o’-lanterns become associated with Halloween? Halloween is based on the Celtic festival Samhain. It was believed that during Samhain the souls of those who had died traveled to the otherworld while other souls would return to visit the living. On Halloween night this ancient pagan tradition still continues on to this very day.

The Great Conjunction & Tecumseh's Curse

Tecumseh's Curse was placed on the US by a Shawnee Prophet after their defeat at the hands of the Americans following the era known as Tecumseh's War.

The curse was given to Henry Harrison and ever since then Presidents would ultimately die (or survive an assassination attempt) in a year ending in zero whether it is an election or a reelection.

There is also an astrological correspondence to Tecumseh’s Curse, which is that there has always been a Jupiter-Saturn conjunction within a year or so of the ‘zero’ Presidents being elected.
