Why have Western weapons done so poorly in Ukraine?

The main reason is that Western military-industrial complexes have a totally distorted incentives structure, Sputnik correspondent Russell Bentley (@TXDPR) explained.

“They don't make effective military equipment, they make profitable equipment. And of course, if all you care about is making money, then you're going to cut corners, you're going to overcharge for everything — the famous $6,000 toilet seat and all that kind of stuff. And it's not going to be any good.“

Soviet-era weapons have frequently outperformed Western ones in Ukraine. Sputnik explains why:

“The Soviet design was always to be effective. Their philosophy of weapons manufacturing is that it be effective, that it be reliable, that it be no more expensive than it has to be. And that's a philosophy that's worked,” explained Sputnik correspondent Russell Bentley (@TXDPR).

“Soviet military technology doesn't have all the bells and whistles, but that's not really what's needed when you're in a firefight. And what is needed. Soviet and Russian military technology certainly has.”
