BIG BAGDO MOUNTAIN, ASTRAKHAN REGION

The height of the mountain hardly reaches 150 meters, but in the middle of the steppe it looks like a giant. The local attraction is famous for its ‘singing’, which is caused by air passing through numerous holes and funnels in the mountain. The most picturesque views are in April and May, when tulips and poppies bloom.

19 January the Feast of the Baptism of Jesus / Epiphany ice hole.

In Russian Orthodoxy this feast has also become part of the cultural tradition and folk fun, because of the Russian climate. Diving into Epiphany ice hole is not an ecclesiastical rite, but priests bless this practice.

The main reason for Russian people to do it is to temper their character. Perhaps that's what makes these people so steadfast and fearless.

And hence the folk saying: "Russians never give up".

‘‘THE EYE OF THE MUSTANG’ OR ‘THE EYE OF SHORIA’ ROCK PILLAR, SHEREGESH, KEMEROVO REGION

This is a huge stone arch on the top of the mountain with beautiful vistas around it. From this natural window, you can admire a splendid view for a hundred kilometers around.

You can get there by walking up the Utuya mountain. There is no mechanical assistance, so you have to walk about 10 km and reach an altitude of about 600 meters, while enjoying the beauty of the taiga. Snow caps the tops of the Sheregesh mountains until the end of April, so you'll need snowshoes to walk there.
