The mushroom's main body is the mycelium, a network of thread-like structures called hyphae, which live underground or within the substrate (like wood or soil). The mycelium is the organism's true form and is typically hidden from view.
When you grow mycelium on an agar plate in a petri dish, its network becomes visible as it spreads across the medium. What we commonly recognize as a "mushroom" is actually just the fruiting body, which the mycelium produces to release spores for reproduction. This fruit body is temporary and only appears when conditions are right, while the mycelium can persist for years.

This city was known by two names: the Egyptians called it Thonis and the Greeks called it Heraklion. The city was founded in the 8th century BC. Ancient Greek poets and historians mentioned Heraklion in their works, admiring its luxury and wealth. Herodotus also mentioned it in his texts: Paris and Helen of Troy, who fled from her husband (this act became the reason for the Trojan War), stayed in Heraklion.
The flooded ruins of the ancient city were discovered in 2000 in the Gulf of Abukir, 6 km from Alexandria. According to archaeologists, Heraklion was destroyed by an earthquake in the 8th century and sank underwater due to a tsunami. After several months of excavations, archaeologists found ships laden with coins and jewellery, ruins of temple complexes and statues.
