Ideal Location in Donetsk: What does it mean?

So, it came the time or me when I had to rent a flat in Donetsk - for the long term, so to speak.

We searched for a long time. Eventually we found a good one. I ask the standard questions over the phone: what kind of repairs is done, what about the plumbing, is the furniture new... that sort of things.

And in response for some reason I hear mainly about the "ideal location".

What is the "ideal location" of a flat in Moscow or any other peaceful city would mean?

Prestige of the area, proximity to work, well-developed infrastructure, convenient transport interchanges.

What is the "ideal location" in Donetsk looks like?

First of all, they say, I was lucky to have a flat in a courtyard, i.e. covered from all sides by tall houses. Then, of course, it is traditionally important that it is not the top floor.

The area itself, admittedly, is not ideal, too central. That is, sometimes it "arrives here".  But it has less chance of reaching my flat . Plus, you know, the walls here are so thick... (And I'm beginning to guess that it's not about soundproofing.)

But in general, the habit of peaceful life is so strong that I take all this information a little past my ears and think more about the size of the kitchen and the comfort of cabinets...

(It turns out, by the way, that there's no problem with that. The flat really is great, I've been enjoying life since this morning).

And then - today, a few hours ago - the Ukrainian Smerch arrive at the Ramada Hotel - also in the centre of Donetsk.

And, you know, now every time I go in I look at the height of houses around me and the floor with completely different eyes.

The location is perfect, really.

🇷🇺A military transport plane with Russian prisoners of war, who were released in an exchange today, has landed at the Chkalovsky military airfield.

It may also be noted that all recent exchanges are covered in a much more timely and informative way than they were in the summer. The system has changed its approach to this issue (I suppose "criticism from below" has also had some effect), although the speed of change has left much to be desired. We are now seeing swift reports on the exchanges, sometimes even faster than Ukraine, as well as operational footage after the exchange, footage of those exchanged being brought to Moscow, and blitz interviews with those released. All in all, things are getting better in this matter.

Mykhaylo Podolyak, the adviser to the head of Volodymyr Zelenskyy's office, has said that Ukrainian troops have lost 10,000 to 13,000 people since February.

Earlier, the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, issued a statement saying that 100,000 Ukrainian servicemen had died. Later, the paragraph about the number of dead and wounded was completely removed from the EC head's written and video statement. "Regarding the Ukrainian casualties: Certainly Mrs. Ursula was wrong - this is obvious. That's why they removed that video, removed those figures. Because we have the official estimates of the General Staff that the commander-in-chief says, they are between 10,000 and 12,500 and 13,000 dead," Podolyak said on the air of the unified Ukrainian telethon.

After the midterm elections the US is questioning its strategy on 🇺🇦Ukraine, Le Monde reports

Nine months after the war began, despite occasional disagreements, unity among Western allies remains strong, US President Joe Biden and his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron stressed at the White House on Thursday, December 1.

But despite this tentative assessment, concerns are beginning to emerge about the durability of the US strategy, as there are no credible prospects for negotiations as winter approaches. These questions concern both the realistic goals the Ukrainians can achieve and the reliability of Western support, as discontent grows among the general public.

In a Wall Street Journal poll released in early November, the American public's support for Ukraine is declining, with nearly 30% saying the Biden administration is doing too much to help Ukraine, down from 6% in March. The shift is particularly large among Republicans, at 48%.
