St. Paul's Provosts and Staff Attend Mass Sport and 6km Walk Event
Today, St. Paul's provosts and staff participated in a mass sport and 6km walk event organized to promote a healthy lifestyle. The event was attended by Her Excellency Adanch Abebe, Mayor of Addis Ababa, and Her Excellency Dr. Mekeds Daba, Health Minister, along with staff from the Ministry of Health (FMOH) and its affiliated organizations.
The initiative aimed to encourage physical activity and wellness, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle for all members of the community. The event brought together key figures in health and wellness, highlighting the ongoing efforts to improve public health across the city.
Participants enjoyed a day of physical exercise and camaraderie, reinforcing the commitment to promoting health and fitness in the capital.
Call for Admission to the Radiology Fellowship Program
I. Academic requirements
a. The candidate should be a holder of a degree of Doctor of Medicine from a recognized university and must have a general radiology specialty certificate from a recognized university.
b. The candidate must be a registered and licensed general radiologist by the Federal Ministry of Health of Ethiopia and should have practiced for two years as a general radiologist
c. Foreign applicants must hold a letter of good standing from their institution and must produce their professional license from Federal Ministry Health of Ethiopia ,as per the national and college legislation.
II. Non-academic requirement
a. Applicants must be in acceptable physical and mental health without any serious health conditions that would limit the ability to cope with the requirements of the training program and service. The AC reserves the right to deny admission to unfit candidates
b. Applicants are also expected to submit: recent CV updated the past six months;postgraduate performance, letter of appreciation for extra-activities with certificate awarded, Research activities, publications, recommendation letter, and sponsorship letter

The registration period will start on December 16 and end on December 25, 2024 [07/04/2017-16/04/2017 EC].
The available pathways include Neuro, Cardiothoracic, Women's and Breast Imaging (WABI), Body Imaging, Musculoskeletal Radiology (MSK), and Interventional Radiology (IR).
Two fellows will be accepted for each pathway

Ethiopian Society of Emergency Professionals Recognizes Key Figures for Contributions to Emergency and Critical Care Development
The Ethiopian Society of Emergency Professionals recently honored three outstanding Ethiopian professionals for their excellence in advancing Emergency and Critical Care services and training in the nation.
The physicians recognized by the Society include Prof. Akililu Azaze and Dr. Sisay Tekelu, who were praised for their significant contributions to the development of the Emergency and Critical Care profession in Ethiopia. Their unwavering dedication to the growth and improvement of emergency services has played a pivotal role in enhancing healthcare delivery nationwide.
In addition, Dr. Zerhun Abebe was acknowledged for his remarkable contributions to the expansion and support of emergency and critical care services in Ethiopia. Dr. Zerhun’s exemplary leadership at St. Paul’s Hospital Millennium Medical College (SPHMMC) and ABET Hospital has significantly strengthened the community’s emergency care services, combining direct patient care with crucial guidance for institutional growth.
The Ethiopian Society of Emergency Professionals commended Dr. Zerhun for his exceptional leadership, which has been instrumental in building capacity and raising the standards of emergency and critical care across the country. His efforts have not only reinforced local healthcare systems but have also influenced national policies and practices, ensuring better preparedness and response during times of crisis.
These recognitions underscore the Society's ongoing commitment to strengthening emergency and critical care services in Ethiopia, which are a vital component of the nation's healthcare infrastructure. The contributions of these professionals continue to inspire others and are crucial in improving health outcomes for communities throughout the country.

ወቅታዊ ጉንፋን እና ጉንፋን መሰል የመተፈንሻ አካላት ህመም
የጉንፋን ሕመም በተፈጥሮ የላይኛውን የመተንፈሻ የሰውነት ክፍሎች ማለትም አፍንጫን፣ ጎሮሮን እና የአየር መተላለፊያ ባንቧን የሚያጠቃ ተላላፊ ሕመም ነዉ።

‘ሪኖ ቫይረስ’  ለጉንፉን መከሰት ዋና ምክንያት ሲሆን፣ ኮሮና፣ ኢንፍሉዌንዛ፣ ፓራ ኢንፍሉዌንዛ፣ አር ኤስ ቪ(RSV) ቫይረሶች ደግሞ ለጉንፉን መሰል ህመሞች መከሰት ዋና  ዋና ምክንያቶች ናቸዉ። ከተጠቀሱት ቫይረሶችም ለጉንፋን ሕመም መከሰት 50 በመቶ ድርሻውን የሚይዘው ሪኖ ቫይረስ ነው፡፡ በደረቅ ነፋሳማ ወቅት የአፍንጫ የውስጠኛው ስስ ሽፋን “ሙከስ መምብሬን” ስለሚደርቅ የጉንፋን ሕመም እና ተላላፊነቱ ይጨምራል፡፡ የክረምት ወራት ወይም የዝናብ ወቅት ማብቃቱን ተከትሎ መስከረምን ጨምሮ በጥቅምትና ህዳር ወራት እንደዚህ አይነት ጉንፋን መሰል ህመም የሚጠበቅ ነው፡፡

ሕመሙ ከሰው ወደ ሰው የሚተላለፈውም በቫይረሱ የተጠቃ ሰው በሚያስልበት ወይም በሚያስነጥስበት ጊዜ እንደሆነና በተጨማሪም ሰዎች ቫይረሱ ያረፈበትን የበር እጀታ፣ ጠረጴዛ ወይም በሕመምተኛው የተነካካንን ሰው እጅ ከነኩ በኋላ አፋቸውንና አፍንጫቸውን ሲነካኩ ቫይረሱ ለመተላለፍ በሚፈጠርለት ምቹ ሁኔታ ነው።

የጉንፋን ሕመም የመጀመሪያ ምልክቱ ከመጀመሩ አንድ ቀን በፊት ተላላፊ ሊሆን ይችላል፤ ሕመሙ ከጀመረ ከ 5 እስከ 10 ባሉት ቀናት ደግሞ ሕመምተኛው ቫይረሱን ያስተላልፋል። ህመሙ አብዛኛዉን ጊዜ እስከ 2 ሳምንት ሊቆይ ይችላል። ምልክቶቹም እንደ የአፍንጫ ፈሳሽ መብዛት፣ ሳል፣ ትኩሳት፣ ራስ ምታትና ጉሮሮን መከርከር፣ ማስነጠስ፣ አይን ማሳከክ እና መቅላት፣ ማስታወክ፣ ከፍ ሲልም የትንፋሽ ማጠር፣ ከፍተኛ ድካምና የምግብ ፍላጎት መቀነስ ዋና ዋናዎቹ ናቸዉ።


አስፈላጊው ጥንቃቄ ካልተደረገ በሽታው የመዛመት እድሉ ከፍ ሊል እንደሚችል፤ በተለይ ቀዳሚ ተጎጅ የሚሆኑትህጻናትና አረጋውያን ናቸው፡፡ በተለይ ደግሞ  እንደ አስም፣ የስኳር በሽታ፣ ካንሰር እና ሌሎች ሥር የሰደዱ ተጓዳኝ የጤና ችግር ያሉባቸው ሕሙማን  ከፍተኛ ጥንቃቄ ልናደርግላቸው እና ወደ ጤና ተቋማት በመሄድ አስፈላጊዉን ምርመራና ህክምና ሊያደርጉ ይገባል፡፡ በተጨማሪም የጉንፋን ሕመም የጆሮ ኢንፌክሽን እና የሳንባ ምች ሕመምን ጨምሮ ለተለያዩ ሕመሞች ተጋላጭ ሊያደርግ ይችላል፡፡

ጉንፋን መሰል በሽታን ከምንከላከልባቸው መንገዶች መካከልም የእጅ ንጽህናን መጠበቅ፣ ሰዎች በተሰበሰቡበት ቦታ የአፍና አፍንጫ ጭምብል(ማስክ) በማድረግና በዕለት ኑሯችን የምንጠቀምባቸውን በከባቢዎቻችን የሚገኙ ቁሳቁሶችን ማጽዳት እና የብዙሃን ማጓጓዣ ትራንስፖርት ላይ መስኮቶችን በመክፈት በቂ የአየር ዝዉዉር እንዲኖር በማድረግ የበሽታዉን የመተላለፍ ዕድል መቀነስ ይቻላል፡፡  የበሽታው ምልክት የሚታይበት ሰው በፍጥነት በአቅራቢያው ወደሚገኝ የጤና ተቋም በመሄድ አስፈላጊውን የህክምና ምክር አና ዕርዳታ ማግኘት አለበት፡፡
