Successful Triple Vessel Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery at SPHMMC
The Heart Team at St. Paul’s Hospital Millennium Medical College (SPHMMC) is proud to announce the successful completion of a triple vessel coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery for a 78-year-old male patient.
The patient had a two-year history of chest pain, fatigue, shortness of breath, and occasional leg swelling. He had been diagnosed with triple vessel coronary artery disease and a previous heart attack (MI), and had been on a surgical waiting list.
After careful planning by our multidisciplinary team, the CABG surgery was performed last week by our local heart surgery team, led by Dr. Berhanu Hailemariam. The procedure included a LIMA graft to the LAD artery and saphenous vein grafts to the OM2 and PDA arteries, harvested from the left leg.
Following surgery, the patient was monitored in the Cardiac ICU and later discharged in stable condition. He has since completed his first outpatient follow-up without complications.
We extend our sincere thanks to TAZMA Specialized Medical Surgical Center and the Cardiac Center of Ethiopia for their valuable support. We are also grateful to our hospital leadership, Department of Surgery, and the entire St. Paul’s Heart Team— including ICU staff, OR staff, nurses, anesthesiologists, perfusionists, and biomedical engineers—whose teamwork and dedication made this success possible.
