Improving Family Planning Counselling and Follow-up (ICAF)
Terms of reference (TOR) for Research assistants

St. Paul's Hospital Millennium Medical College (SPHMMC) was established through a decree of the council of ministers in 2010 although the hospital was set up in 1968 and the medical education began in 2007.It is now governed by a board under the federal ministry of health. The college initiated Ethiopia’s first integrated modular and hybrid problem-based curriculum for its undergraduate medical education, and is currently expanding to various postgraduate and fellowship programs.

Introduction
Many contraceptive methods cause menstrual bleeding changes, a common side effect that some women find unacceptable, impacting contraceptive continuation and choice. Fear of infertility, sometimes linked to the misconception that contraception-induced amenorrhea signals infertility, further complicates contraceptive decisions. High-quality contraceptive counselling must address these concerns empathetically, supporting informed decision-making and method switching when necessary, and providing ongoing support for managing side effects. However, research on women's experiences with contraceptive side effects, particularly bleeding changes and infertility concerns, is limited, especially in sub-Saharan Africa. While studies suggest women desire more counselling on side effects and better management support, there's a lack of research exploring their specific preferences for such support. To address these gaps, ICAF has developed and is preparing to test a human-centred design intervention package in Ethiopia and Kenya aimed at improving support for women navigating these challenges.
Project background
ICAF's two-phase project first explored women's concerns about contraceptive side effects and preferences for counselling and follow-up care via in-depth interviews. This informed a human-centred design process, incorporating interviews, focus groups, a community advisory board, and prototype testing, to develop the "Mittin" intervention. The resulting intervention packages, including take-home materials, provider job aids, waiting room support, and call counselling, will be piloted and tested in public health facilities over the next two years.

To ERMP 2024 applicants
__

Finally, after a long journey of registration followed by exam and choice revision, we’ve arrived on the most awaited step of ERMP 2024 - Matching! We would like to congratulate all matched candidates for being successful to join a residency program in this year’s ERMP!

The merit-based matching is done using the ERMP matching algorithm and your matching result is Posted at the Ministry Telegram channel (https://tttttt.me/M0H_EThiopia) with a table of maximum and minimum grades of matched candidates for each specialty and university.

If you have any complaint on your matching result, you can make a call to the Ministry’s Hotline of 952 during the appeal week of February 21 -28, 2025 on working hours. No appeal is to be entertained after the dead line (Feb 28, 2025). And also, complaints on change of place or program or sponsor will not be accepted as an appeal.

The issue of NGAT was the major reason that made the matching result late to be posted, and we appreciate your patience you had so far. Those of you, who do not have a pass certificate for NGAT, should follow the notice to be given by Ministry of Education (MoE) since we are making an arrangement for the NGAT exam to be conducted by MoE as early as possible.

We, hereby, cordially request all institutions running residency program, to consider the NGAT issue before making any announcement for admission (registration).

Further information on deployment, MOH sponsorship agreement procedure and other issues will be posted soon.
