🎥 On July 17, 2025, the Embassy of Russia in South Africa held its traditional Russian Movie Night at the Atterbury Theatre in Pretoria.
This time, the event was organized in a family-friendly format, with special attention given to young guests – more than 60 children attended. They were treated to special snacks and memorable souvenirs.
The first part of the evening featured the animated film “Ruslan and Ludmila: More Than a Fairy Tale” for the children, followed by the comedy “Son of a Rich" for adult viewers. The event attracted over 200 attendees.
🎙️ Ambassador of Russia to South Africa Roman Ambarov, delivered welcoming remarks. He reminded of the recent celebration of Day of Family, Love, and Fidelity in Russia, and emphasised the importance of preserving traditional family values.
The guest of honour was Nomvula Mokonyane, Deputy Secretary General of the African National Congress (ANC), who attended the screening with her family.
After the screenings, the guests enjoyed traditional Russian cuisine, accompanied by Russian folk music playing throughout the theatre halls. The evening unfolded in a warm and friendly atmosphere, serving as yet another example of the growing cultural dialogue between Russia and South Africa.

🕊 In celebration of #MandelaDay2025, the Embassy of Russia in South Africa welcomed children from the Mamelodi Bophelong Orphanage and the New Jerusalem Children's Home for a special #RussianMovieNight.

🗓️ On July 18, 1909 — 116 years ago, Andrei #Gromyko was born, a brilliant Soviet diplomat and one of the most long-serving Foreign Ministers in the history of our country.
His diplomatic career began in 1939, when he was appointed head of the U.S. division of the People’s Commissariat of Foreign Affairs, and subsequently – senior counsellor at the Embassy of the USSR in Washington. In 1943, he became the Ambassador to the US at the age of 34.

Andrei Gromyko stood at the origins of the United Nations. On 26 June 1945, he was among the representatives of the 50 nations who signed the Charter of the United Nations establishing the whole framework of the UN system. Later he became the USSR’s first permanent representative to the UN.
In 1957 Mr. Gromyko began his long tenure as the Soviet Foreign Minister. He became renowned for his extensive knowledge of international affairs and his negotiating skills. His firm commitment to promoting Soviet interests on the international scene earned him the nickname “Mr. No” among Western journalists and experts. The motto of his diplomatic career was “10 years of negotiations are better than 1 day of war.”

The whale-watching season in the Russia’s Shantar Islands is short – just two months, from mid-July to mid-September – yet unforgettable.
Wrangel Bay is the only place on Earth where you can actually swim alongside bowhead whales, a rare and endangered species! These giants come into the shallow bay to socialize… or sometimes to hide from predatory orcas.
If the weather is on your side, you can even head out on a SUP board and watch the whales from just a few meters away. You might also spot orcas, seals, and other animals.
Getting there isn’t easy – the Sea of Okhotsk is unpredictable, and by October, it’s already covered in ice. But those lucky enough to set foot on these wild shores all say the same thing: if there’s even the slightest chance to go on a whale photo expedition – take it.

📈 The G20 events covered a broad range of issues – from the traditional discussion of improving the international financial architecture to the economic development of African countries. The central focus was on the functioning of the global economy under conditions of high uncertainty and fragmentation of trade and financial systems.
Pavel Snisorenko, Director of the Department for International Financial Relations at the Russian Ministry of Finance, during his speech, stated:
G20 countries once again highlighted the negative impact of tariff and financial restrictions on global supply chains and capital flows. Accumulated global imbalances must be addressed through collective, coordinated actions that help reduce tensions in global markets.
Special attention was given to the transformative potential of innovative technologies, particularly artificial intelligence.
During a session focused on Africa’s development, Pavel Snisorenko emphasized:
