🇷🇺🇿🇦📞 President Vladimir Putin spoke over the phone with President of the Republic of South Africa Cyril Ramaphosa.

The President of South Africa expressed his deep condolences and feelings of solidarity over the terrorist attack at the Crocus City Hall. He wished resilience to the families and friends of the victims and a speedy recovery to the injured.

The Leaders expressed satisfaction with the current level of strategic partnership between their countries and discussed issues of practical trade, economic, energy and humanitarian cooperation.

Speaking in the context of the #BRICS Chairmanship, which Russia has taken over from South Africa, they discussed interaction within the group in its new expanded format.

In light of the peace initiative advanced by African states to resolve the Ukraine crisis, Cyril Ramaphosa briefed Vladimir Putin on South Africa’s intention to continue working in this area with due regard for Russia’s legitimate interests. Vladimir Putin, in turn, outlined Russia’s position of principle on developments around Ukraine, noting that Russia had always been open to a serious and substantive discussion of a political and diplomatic settlement of the conflict.

What will be the endgame in Ukraine?

✍🏻 Article by Ambassador of Russia to South Africa Ilya Rogachev (28 March 2024)

READ IN FULL

➡️Key takeaways:

🔸The situation on the battlefield is growing worse for Ukraine and its Western allies amid the failed ‘counter-offensive’ and Russia’s resilience to sanctions pressure

🔸The collective West won’t stop supporting the Kiev regime because “the failure in Ukraine could be the beginning of the end of its golden age” (Polish Prime Minister Morawiecki)

🔸Some European officials started talking about NATO’s direct interference in Ukraine conflict. Many reckless politicians in the West really wish to go to war against Russia, hoping to achieve a military victory at least that way

In case of the West sending troops to Ukraine, we would need to talk not about the probability, but about the inevitability of a direct conflict between NATO and Russia.

🔸Who would benefit from a new war of Europe against Russia? US-based global companies already made billions on EU’s energy crisis, food market situation, must people now be sent to death to secure their interests in Ukraine?

🔸Western officials and mainstream media are frantically pushing the totally false ‘no-life-after-Ukraine’ narrative, trying to convince people that Ukraine crisis is existential for them. However, if it were not for the West, it wouldn’t have emerged at all.

🔸Ukraine crisis can be resolved rather easily – simply by taking Russia’s legitimate security concerns into account. They are basically about an indivisible security system in Eurasia, equal for all.

☝🏻The so-called ‘Zelensky peace formula’ and its variations cannot serve as a basis for conflict resolution as it totally ignores Russia’s security interests. It was initiated and is being promoted solely for propaganda purposes.

Alexey Valkov, Deputy CEO of the Roscongress Foundation and Director of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum:

💬 The Russia–Africa Business Dialogue is a traditional format that has been bringing together business and official circles from Africa and Russia at SPIEF since 2016. Moreover, it is an excellent practical tool that allows us to expand areas of cooperation – both geographical and informational.

NJ Ayuk, Executive Chairman of the African Energy Chamber:

💬 “Russia has been a reliable partner of Africa for many years and will continue to play an important role in its energy development. Russian companies, as global energy players, are eager to explore and invest in international markets, including Africa, offering the technological expertise needed to unlock its energy potential.

☝️ Russia’s relationship with Africa, especially in the energy sector, is constantly growing. SPIEF serves as a platform to strengthen this cooperation and move towards a strategic partnership”.

⚡️ Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation:

The Head of Russia’s Investigative Committee held a meeting on current issues and listened to a report of the investigative team on the terrorist attack in the Crocus City Hall.

The investigators reported about their intensive efforts to reconstruct a complete picture of the crime, both its preparation and planning and the commission of a terrorist attack against unarmed civilians.

The initial results of the investigation fully confirm that the crime was planned, meticulously prepared and funded by its organisers.

❗️ Interrogations of the detained terrorists, study of their technical devices and the analysis of information on their financial transactions point 👉 to their connections with Ukrainian nationalists.

The investigators have confirmed evidence that the terrorists received substantial funds and crypto currency from Ukraine for preparing the crime.

One more suspect who took part in funding the terrorists was detained. The investigators will apply to the court for his detention as a measure of restraint.

🤝 The Soviet Afro-Asian Solidarity Committee and its contribution to the struggle against apartheid

We continue the series of joint publications with the Institute for African Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences "Russia - South Africa in the XX century: pages of common history".

The Soviet Afro-Asian Solidarity Committee was a public organization established in 1956 in the USSR to promote friendship between the peoples of the Union on the one hand and Asia and Africa on the other.

👉 The organization acted in a variety of ways: conducted mass protest actions with oppressed peoples, organized material support for activists of national liberation movements and supervised intl solidarity projects.

One high-profile campaign to support the children of anti-apartheid fighters, which was unique and truly grassroots, was the collection of gifts (approximately 20 tons) for the children of exiled ANC members.

The largest public initiative by Soviet youth to provide targeted aid to the South African liberation movement was carried out in 1985 by Soviet pupils and students from Sverdlovsk (now Yekaterinburg).

In 1984, Irina Cheremisina, a student at the Ural State University, traveled to Moscow to obtain materials for her thesis on the SA struggle against apartheid. She made friends with South African students who were studying at the Peoples’ Friendship University.

Her friends told her about the Solomon Mahlangu Freedom College, a school in Tanzania where children of activists and young ANC members in exile studied.

Back home Irina decided to send humanitarian aid to Tanzania with the international friendship club. The organizers invited the whole city to participate in the collecting of gifts.

In August 1985, a 20-ton container with humanitarian aid for the College arrived in Tanzania. Gifts for South African schoolchildren were collected by 150 organisations, schools and universities in Sverdlovsk.

The materials provided by the Center for Southern Africa Studies of the Institute.

📆 133 years ago, #OTD in 1891, Russian emperor Alexander III issued an order on the construction of the Great Siberian Route, nowadays known as the Trans-Siberian Railway.

Various projects of a railway to Siberia had been considered in Russia since the late 1850s, but could not be implemented due to their high cost and harsh environment conditions. Finally, in May 1891 the construction started.

🛤 Tsarevich Nikolay, the future Emperor of Russia Nikolay II personally laid the railway’s foundation.

🇷🇺 The Trans-Siberian Railway has connected Moscow with Vladivostok since 1916 with expansion of the railway still taking place today. With total length of 9288 km it spans a record seen time zones, taking 8 days to complete the journey from Moscow to Vladivostok.

💬 President of Russia Vladimir Putin:

❗️ There would have been no developments similar to those that are now taking place, if the NATO countries established entirely new relations in the sphere of security following the breakup of the Soviet Union, as Russia had suggested. They would have simply heeded our interests in the sphere of security; we discussed this issue year after year and, in effect, from decade to decade.

☝🏻They simply ignored us and deployed their forces next to our borders.

Did we move towards the borders of the NATO bloc’s member countries? We did not bother anyone. They were moving towards us. Did we cross the ocean and approach US borders? No, they are the ones who are closing in on us, and they have reached our borders.

What are we doing? We are only defending our people on our historical territories.

❗️ In the past, the Ukrainian special services, such as the Security Service of Ukraine and the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence, have repeatedly admitted publicly to preparing and committing high-profile terrorist attacks against Russia and its citizens.
