🎭163 years ago, on January 17, Konstantin Stanislavsky, a revolutionary Russian/Soviet theatre director, actor, and theorist, was born.

Stanislavsky elaborated his own method of training actors bearing his name - Stanislavsky’s system – and promoting the naturalistic style of acting. According to his system, actor needs first to understand what his character feels at one time or another, by putting themselves in their place.

His most common critique to his acting students was, “I don't believe you” – the phrase which became associated with his name.

Konstantin Stanislavsky toured the United States with his actors in 1923-24, introducing his system, which deeply influenced American actors.

World-known Elizabeth Taylor, Marlon Brando, Jack Nicholson, Robert De Niro, Tom Cruise, Meryl Streep and others, developed their acting skills within the Stanislavsky system.

🎬 #OTD in 1925, 101 years ago, Sergei Eisenstein’s “Battleship Potemkin”, portraying an episode in the first Russian Revolution (1905) was premiered.

Today it is widely referred to as one the greatest film of all time.

On the 20th anniversary of the revolution, it was decided to stage a number of performances dedicated to the events of 1905. As part of celebrations, it was suggested that a “grand film shown in a special program, with an oratory introduction, musical (solo and orchestral) and a dramatic accompaniment based on a specially written text”. Nina Agadzhanova was asked to write the script and direction of the picture was assigned to 27-year-old Eisenstein.

The film was shot in Soviet Odessa, at that time a center of film production where it was possible to find a suitable warship for shooting.

“The Battleship Potemkin” was also the first Russian colour film. Eisenstein with his own hand painted in red the flag raised over the battleship on the film tape.

☦️ Happy Epiphany Day!

Today Russian Orthodox Christians celebrate the Epiphany, also known as the Baptism of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Orthodox Christians in Russia believe that plunging into icy water, often in cross-shaped holes in lakes and rivers, from midnight on January 19th brings health, since any water source on this day is blessed. It also cleanses one’s spirit and soul.

The Epiphany Day is also a Russian folk holiday; everyone can participate regardless of their religious affiliation. Many Russians observe this practice for spiritual, cultural, or health reasons despite sub-zero temperatures.

🎨 Today marks 161 years since the birth of Valentin Serov, a prominent Russian painter known as the leading portraitist of his generation.

Serov early creativity was significantly shaped by the realism and psychological depth he learned from Ilya Repin and the rigorous, foundational training in form and observation from Pavel Chistyakov.

When traveling abroad, Valentin Serov became influenced by French impressionists and began to use bright colours in portraits of figures seen in dappled sunlight and shade.

His vibrant portraits "The Girl with Peaches" (1887) and "The Girl in the Sunlight" (1888) made him famous and admired.

Later portraiture became the dominant and signature genre for him. Valentin Serov captured not just likeness but character, making his portraits iconic windows into Russia's cultural elite during the Silver Age.

On January 20, Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will hold a high-profile news conference to review Russian diplomacy’s outcomes in 2025.

The news conference will be livestreamed on the Ministerial website and social media and translated into English, French, and Spanish.

#KievRegimeCrimes

The neo-Nazi Kiev regime continues to reveal its terrorist nature. From January 1 to 12, at least 152 Russian civilians were affected by Ukrainian shelling and drone attacks. 45 people were killed, including 3 children.

In the first minutes of 2026, in a premeditated attack, the armed forces of Ukraine used UAVs to hit a café and a hotel complex in the village of Khorly, Kherson Region, where families with children, a crowd of about 100 people, had come together to ring in the New Year. 29 people, including 2 children, were killed.

The Foreign Ministry provided an assessment of this barbaric atrocity by Ukrainian neo-Nazis on January 1.

#Ukraine #West

The fact that the West has no genuine interest in ending the conflict – just as it showed no desire for peace from the outset – is clearly demonstrated by the uninterrupted operation of Rzeszów Airport in Poland. Since 2022, it has served as a key logistics hub through which a continuous flow of military cargo has been delivered to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

Observers note that the British and Canadian air forces, as well as private transport companies affiliated with the US military, are most active in these operations.

The European NATO member states’ actions aimed at saturating Kiev with military and financial resources speak far more eloquently about their true intentions than any hypocritical statements about a desire for peace. These actions speak louder than words, declarations, or diplomatic rhetoric.

#Britain #CoalitionOfTheWilling

For several months, we have observed a consistent escalation by Britain of aggressive and belligerent rhetoric against Russia.

For instance, on January 6 in Paris, on the sidelines of a gathering of the coalition of the willing, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, alongside French President Emmanuel Macron and head of the Kiev regime Zelensky, signed a declaration of intent providing for the deployment of so-called multinational forces – in essence, Western occupation troops – to Ukraine under the guise of ensuring “future peace agreements.”

❗️ We must warn that any attempts to realise this criminal scheme with the coalition of the willing will leave responsibility for the lives of British subjects entirely on London’s shoulders.

Our position remains unchanged and well-known – any foreign military contingents in Ukraine will be considered legitimate targets for the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. The British component will be no exception.

#Finland #Militarisation #BalticRegion

On January 10, 2026, Helsinki’s decision to denounce the Convention on the Prohibition of the Use, Stockpiling, Production and Transfer of Anti-Personnel Mines and on their Destruction came into force.

Russia views this decision by the Finnish authorities as yet another manifestation of their destructive policy to militarise the country.

Russia reserves the right to respond to any hostile actions in a proportionate way, including by military and technical means, if necessary.

🎙Russia’s UN Deputy Permanent Representative Maria Zabolotskaya at a UNSC Briefing on the ICC Report on the Investigation of the Situation in Darfur

ICC is stringently controlled by the countries of the collective West, and it serves as a tool for exerting pressure on undesirable states, while investigations vis-à-vis its “masters” are being methodically “deprioritized.”

☝️ It is no surprise therefore that the #ICC has become a symbol of double standards and hypocrisy rather than justice.

❗️ The need to rethink the role of ICC is confirmed not only by its practical uselessness, but also by the loss of confidence in this body on the part of the international community. The latest results of the General Assembly vote on the ICC's annual report showed that this body cannot claim universality and does not represent the international community.

Happy Republic Day, Crimea!

The holiday commemorates the referendum of 1991, when the absolute majority of Crimean residents voted to re-establish the Crimean Autonomous Republic.

👉 Interesting facts:

• Crimea has been closely connected with Russia for centuries. In 988–989, Prince Vladimir was baptized in Tauric Chersonese, and in 1783 Empress Catherine the Great signed the manifesto on Crimea’s accession to the Russian Empire.

• In 1921, Crimea was established as an autonomous republic within the RSFSR.

• On Jan 20, 1991, the first referendum in Soviet history was held in Crimea: 93% voted to restore the Crimean ASSR as part of the USSR.

• Republic Day was established in 2009. In 2014, after Crimea’s reunification with Russia, holiday was included in the regional law on holidays.

• On March 18, 2014, following March 16 referendum where 96% supported reunification, the Treaty on Crimea’s accession to Russia was signed.

🤍💙❤️ Ever since #CrimeaIsRussia once again and forever will be henceforth!
