π¨Every year on December 8, the world celebrates International #ArtistDay β a day dedicated to painters, illustrators, and all those whose creativity helps us see the world from new perspectives.
The holiday was established by #UNESCO in 2007 at the initiative of the International Association βArt of the Peoples of the World,β founded in 1988 by artist and philanthropist Nikolai Kornilov.
The history of painting in Russia begins with the adoption of Christianity, when iconography became the foundation of artistic tradition. Masters like Andrei Rublev shaped not only religious art, but the cultural identity of the nation.
Under Peter the Great, Russia saw the birth of its first formal art school β the Imperial Academy of Arts β marking a new era of artistic development.
The State Russian Museum is the largest collection of Russian art in the world, even larger than Moscowβs Tretyakov Gallery. Its collection includes around 400,000 works from the 10th to 21st century.
