Our country was the first to recognize the People's Republic of China on October 2, 1949, the very next day after its proclamation. We provided extensive assistance in the early stages of development of its political system, state institutions and economy. Over the decades, our cooperation has only grown and advanced.

🤝 Our negotiations once again demonstrated that the approaches of Russia and China to many international and regional problems are either similar or coincide, and they also showed the great importance that both Moscow and Beijing place on the development and strengthening of the comprehensive Russian-Chinese partnership and strategic interaction. This partnership, undoubtedly, serves as a model for how relations between neighboring states should be built.

🌐 Both countries pursue independent and autonomous foreign policies. 🎙 Russia's MFA Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova’s comment on the UNGA’s resolution on the Srebrenica genocide

💬 On May 23, the UNGA voted for a resolution establishing July 11 as the International Day of Reflection and Commemoration of the 1995 Genocide in Srebrenica (Bosnia and Herzegovina, BiH). The document was adopted by a vote of 84 in favour to 19 against (Russia included), with 68 abstentions, while 21 countries did not vote.

This document is yet another irresponsible attempt by the West to rewrite history and seal the interpretation of the ethnic conflict in former Yugoslavia and related events that suits their geopolitical interests.

☝️ It is a resolution of a pronounced politicised and anti-Serb nature. <...> Worse still, the sponsors and supporters of this document in the UNGA had the audacity to declare ‘promoting interethnic reconciliation and unity of the three state-forming peoples of BiH (Bosniaks, Serbs and Croats)’ as its purpose.

We strongly believe that the move will have the reverse effect. The sponsors of the resolution and those who voted for it cannot be unaware of the difficult situation in BiH <...>. The document adopted by the General Assembly will only exacerbate the existing differences, increase the conflict potential in the Balkans, and jeopardise the Dayton Agreement which provides the basis for BiH’s statehood.

Sarajevo political representatives have been pushing for this resolution <...>, thereby grossly violating the Constitution of BiH and the Dayton Agreement, which requires a consensus decision of the Presidency of BiH. Their idea was strongly supported by representatives of NATO countries, which bear the main responsibility for the tragic events in Yugoslavia, including in Srebrenica.

We highlighted the threats to the Dayton Agreement, including those stemming from the adoption of the resolution on Srebrenica. <...> Western representatives would not to listen to us or to the Serbs.

On this day in 1963, the first conference of African governments took place in Addis Ababa, paving the way to the establishment of the Organisation of African Unity, which later evolved into the African Union. This was how the first stage in the decolonisation process on the African continent reached its culminating point.

Long before the Europeans arrived in Africa, it was home to developed, self-sufficient and sustainable economies with their own homegrown governance models, as well as production and reproduction paradigms which were in sync with the continent’s environmental and climate imperatives.

It was during the Age of Discovery that Europeans started intensively exploiting Africa’s natural and human resources for enriching their countries, with the Portuguese and Spanish becoming the first nations to establish trade routes along Africa’s western coast.

⛓ ⛓ European powers relied on slave trade as their main method for generating maximum returns. The discovery of the New World brought about a boom for this kind of trade since European colonisers needed free labour to gain a foothold in the Americas. It started by sending slaves from Europe, but by the mid-16th century there were already slave ships heading to the New World across the Atlantic directly from Africa.

Apart from slave trade, Europeans exploited Africa’s rich natural resources. They exported its gold, ivory and other valuable goods.

In the 19th and 20th centuries, this policy of exploiting African resources by the European colonial powers, i.e., Great Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Portugal and Belgium, morphed into an all-out effort to subjugate the continent. This brought about and reinforced national liberation movements across the continent and resulted in African counties achieving their independence in the 1960s.

📃 The Soviet Union played a key role in pressuring the UN General Assembly to pass the Declaration on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and Peoples proclaiming the need to end colonialism and discrimination in all its forms.

Our country has played an essential role in proactively assisting African nations in their struggle for independence and played an important role in helping establish these young nations. In fact, the USSR helped build 37 African economies by signing bilateral economic and technical cooperation agreements with them. Soviet military advisors and military experts worked in Angola, Ethiopia, Egypt, Mozambique and several other African countries at different times.

🇷🇺🤝🌍 Today, efforts to develop multi-pronged, comprehensive cooperation with African states constitutes a major foreign policy priority for Russia. Held in July 2023 in St Petersburg, the Second Russia-Africa Summit served as anew and major impetus for developing our relations with countries across this region in all their aspects.

❌ Not only are Western powers continuing to exploit the African nations by siphoning off their resources and helping their corporations earn hefty profits, but also seek to defend their own unsightly record there. In their effort to falsify history they have gone beyond their attempts to rewrite the fundamental causes, course and outcomes of World War II and went on to engage in a cynical, albeit tacit, campaign to sweep the colonial-era horrors under the carpet. The West is trying to pretend that it has nothing to do with the suffering many generations of Africans have had to endure, including racism, slave trade and punitive operations.

☝️ But Africa remembers it all.

🇺🇳 24 мая 2024 г. в Женеве завершилась Дипломатическая конференция по генетическим ресурсам и связанным с ними традиционным знаниям, проходившая под эгидой Всемирной организации интеллектуальной собственности (ВОИС).
 
✅ По итогам предшествовавших ей 25-летних переговоров был успешно принят новый международный договор в сфере интеллектуальной собственности. Направленный на защиту прав коренных народов и местных общин, документ закрепляет требование о раскрытии информации об источнике генетических ресурсов или связанных с ними традиционных знаниях, на которых основано изобретение, при подаче заявки на патент.
 
🤝 Переговорный процесс не был простым. Однако дух конструктивного сотрудничества возобладал среди участников, благодаря чему удалось найти сбалансированное решение и заключить Договор ВОИС в сфере интеллектуальной собственности, генетической ресурсов и связанных с ними традиционных знаний.
 
🇷🇺 Российские эксперты принимали активное участие на всех этапах работы с Договором. Как отметил возглавляющий российскую делегацию руководитель Роспатента Ю.С.Зубов на торжественном закрытии Дипломатической конференции:

«Ввиду природного и этнокультурного богатства России данный документ представляет для нашей страны особую ценность и важность».

 
💬 Подводя итоги мероприятия, Генеральный директор ВОИС Д.Танг подчеркнул:

«Сегодня мы сделали во многих отношениях исторический шаг. Достигнутое консенсусом соглашение не только стало кульминацией переговорного процесса длиною 25 лет, это еще и мощный сигнал — многосторонний подход в ВОИС жив и процветает».

🇺🇳 On May 13-24, 2024, the Diplomatic Conference on Genetic Resources and Associated Traditional Knowledge was held in Geneva under the auspices of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).

✅ The preceding 25-year negotiations successfully concluded with the adoption of a new international treaty on intellectual property. Aimed at protecting the rights of indigenous peoples and local communities, the document establishes a requirement to disclose information about the source of the genetic resources or associated traditional knowledge on which the invention is based when filing a patent application.

🤝 The negotiation process was not easy. However, a spirit of constructive cooperation prevailed among the participants, enabling them to find a balanced solution and adopt the WIPO Treaty on Intellectual Property, Genetic Resources and Associated Traditional Knowledge.

🇷🇺 Russian experts actively participated in all stages of the Treaty's development. As the head of the Russian delegation Yury Zubov (Rospatent) noted at the closing reception of the Diplomatic Conference:

"Given Russia's extensive natural and cultural heritage, this document is of special significance and value to our country".

💬 Summarizing the event, WIPO Director General Daren Tang emphasized:

“Today we have taken a historic step in various aspects. The agreement reached by consensus not only culminated the 25-year negotiation process, but it is also sends a powerful message that the multilateral approach in WIPO is alive and thriving”.

💬 The deployment of US ground-launched intermediate and shorter-range missiles (IRBMs) in these regions [Europe and Asia Pacific] poses significant security challenges for Russia. <...> We will not hesitate to respond if the Americans move forward with their plans to deploy their ground-launched IRBMs.

🇷🇺🇨🇳 We have established a high level of mutual trust with China, which serves as a foundation for our military cooperation. By working together, Russia and China seek to reinforce international security in keeping with international norms.

• We appreciate Beijing’s constructive approach to the Ukraine crisis. Our Chinese friends understand its root causes and the essence of the current developments.

• The current ruling party in Kiev is the party of war, and their stated goal is to defeat Russia on the battlefield. It is difficult to imagine any peace talks taking place in that situation.

☝️ We said on numerous occasions, including at the highest level, that Russia remains open to negotiations. However, it should be clear to everyone that we will only discuss peace, not a ceasefire.

• There is no denying that the OSCE is in a deep crisis. It has been caused by the fact that the West has trampled on the principles the organisation was built on. A total “Ukrainisation” of its agenda has practically brought to naught its activities in the traditional fields.

• Supplying the Kiev regime with increasingly destructive types of weapons shows that the West is not interested in ending the conflict. The F-16 American fighters will not change the situation on the line of contact.

❌ From our experience with the Americans, it is perfectly clear that US statements are not to be trusted. <...> The Americans continue to make declarations about their commitment to a just solution to the Palestine problem, while at the same time generously adding fuel to the armed confrontation.

🇷🇺🇺🇳 On May 30 in Geneva, Deputy Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin held a meeting with the President of the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) Omar Zniber.

💬 A detailed discussion was held on a wide range of issues regarding the functioning of the UNHRC. Deputy Minister Vershinin expressed his concerns over the increasing levels of politicization and confrontation in this key UN human rights body.

❗️ An emphasis was placed on the necessity of returning to a spirit of constructive, equitable and respectful cooperation on current issues of promoting and protecting human rights.

🤝 The importance of joint efforts to elevate human rights as a means of fostering unity among various states and country groups was highlighted. Such endeavours are crucial in strengthening trust and mutual respect within international relations.
