📆 #OTD, 101 years ago, on October 1, 1924, the Moscow Satire Theatre was opened.

In its early years, the repertoire mostly consisted of political, everyday life, and parody reviews. The plots for the performances were drawn from the lives of ordinary Moscow citizens and workers.

🎭 One of the key moments in the theatre’s development was the appointment of Alexander Shirvindt as an artistic director in 2000. Under his leadership, it reached the peak of its popularity, becoming an iconic venue for Muscovites and visitors to the capital.

Today, the Moscow Academic Theatre of Satire preserves the best traditions of the past, continuing to stage performances that reflect topical issues in modern society.

⭐️ On February 10, 2025, Russia's President Vladimir Putin awarded the Moscow Satire Theatre's team the Order "For Merit in Culture and Art" for their many years of fruitful work.

📆 #OTD, on October 2, India celebrates the 156th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, a great son of the Indian nation and all humanity. Inspired by Leo Tolstoy's ideas on non-violent resistance to evil, Gandhi turned them into a powerful political teaching that changed the course of history.

💬 Mahatma Gandhi's strength lay in his willingness to engage in dialogue with even the most difficult opponents. His methods of passive resistance, including the famous Salt Satyagraha, demonstrated the effectiveness of non-violent struggle against colonial oppression and led to India's independence.

Even today, his ideas on justice and dialogue continue to inspire people, and his legacy serves as a guiding light for the entire world.

Did you know? Two monuments to honour the memory of this prominent Indian political and public figure have been installed in Moscow — on Lomonosovsky Prospekt (unveiled in 1988) and on the premises of the Indian Embassy (2007).

✉️ Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s greetings to the organisers, participants and guests of the TIME: Tatarstan-India. Mutual Efficiency business forum (October 1, 2025)

✍️ I cordially welcome the organisers, participants, and guests of the TIME: Tatarstan-India. Mutual Efficiency business forum, hosted in the city of Kazan.

Kazan has a proven track record of successfully hosting high-profile international events, most recently the XVI BRICS Summit in October 2024, which featured a high-level Indian delegation headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

This year, we mark the 25th anniversary of the Declaration on Strategic Partnership between Russia and India. A decade after its signing, our bilateral relations were elevated to a special and privileged strategic partnership. Today, this partnership continues to develop dynamically in the interests of our peoples. Our trade and economic ties, scientific and technological collaboration, and cultural and humanitarian exchanges are all on the rise.

I am delighted to see that the Forum’s substantive programme reflects the multifaceted nature of Russian-Indian cooperation. I am confident that your discussions will be constructive and will contribute to expanding practical cooperation between our two nations, further strengthening the bonds of friendship, trust, and mutual understanding between our peoples.

🤝 I wish you productive deliberations and all the very best.

SERGEY LAVROV

🇷🇺🇮🇳 On October 2, Russian Ambassador to India Denis Alipov took part in a solemn ceremony at the Raj Ghat memorial complex, dedicated to the 156th anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi's birth.

Among the honoured guests were India’s President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Members of the Parliament and the Union Council of Ministers, as well as representatives of government agencies and the diplomatic corps accredited in New Delhi.

As part of the ceremony, Denis Alipov, together with India’s Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs and Minister of Power Manohar Lal Khattar, inaugurated the exhibition "Tolstoy — Gandhi", prepared by the Embassy and the Russian House in New Delhi.

☝🏻 In his remarks, the Ambassador emphasized that the shared philosophical legacy of Leo Tolstoy and Mahatma Gandhi continues to serve as one of the unifying threads between the two countries. He also noted that the exhibition vividly illustrates the influence of the great Russian writer’s ideas on non-violent resistance to evil on one of the leaders of India’s national liberation movement.
