🎙 Comment by Russia's Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova on the escalation of tension in the #KoreanPeninsula
💬 In recent days, tensions on the Korean Peninsula has markedly escalated. According to official statements from Pyongyang, the territory of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), including its capital, has experienced unprecedented incursions by unmanned aerial vehicles originating from the Republic of Korea, which have been disseminating propaganda materials.
⚠️ Such actions by Seoul can only be interpreted as a flagrant violation of the DPRK’s sovereignty and interference in its internal affairs, aimed at undermining the legitimate political and government system of an independent state and depriving it of its right to sovereign development.
The South Korean authorities should take Pyongyang’s warnings very seriously and cease further escalation on the peninsula through their reckless and provocative campaign, which exacerbates tension and could lead to actual armed confrontations.
It is imperative for Seoul to recognise that the propagation of a concept of the merger of the two Koreas by South Korea via the imposition of pseudo-liberal values and the expansion of certain ‘freedoms’ constitutes a security risk, primarily to its own citizens.
❗️ Only political and diplomatic measures, grounded in the principle of indivisible security, can ensure enduring peace and stability in the subregion.
There is no alternative course, unless military aggression is indeed the ultimate aim of South Korea and its ‘senior’ ally, the United States.
☝️ Russia remains committed to playing a constructive role on the Korean Peninsula, striving to avert dangerous developments and guide the situation back towards a positive trajectory, including through the framework of the Treaty on Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with the DPRK.

🗓 On October 16, Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Mikhail Mishustin took part in the SCO Heads of Government Council Meeting.
💬 Mikhail Mishustin: I would like to congratulate our Pakistani friends and partners on assuming the chairmanship of the SCO Heads of Government Council for the first time and thank them for their warm welcome and excellent organisation of our events in Islamabad.
<...>
Pressure is mounting on Russia, but those who impose sanctions on us will not attain their goals. We are focused on realising our potential and supporting the key spheres of the national economy and relevant enterprises.
📈 Thanks to the development of the real economy sectors, Russia’s GDP increased by 4.2% in the first eight months of 2024. Investment in fixed assets grew by nearly 11 percent in the first six months of this year.
We are working actively to strengthen cooperation with the friendly countries that share our values. Last year, Russia’s trade with the SCO member states reached a record high volume of 30 trillion roubles (approximately $330 billion) and has grown by 5.5% in the first six months of the year.
It is particularly important to promote economic cooperation between the SCO states with a focus on the implementation of President Vladimir Putin’s Greater Eurasian Partnership initiative.
<...>
The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation unites 10 member states and 16 observer nations. It geographically encompasses nearly the entire Eurasian continent. Our nations are home to almost half of the global population and contribute approximately 30% of the world's GDP. This remarkable potential must be harnessed for the common good and in the interests of each member state.
<...>
🤝 I am confident that the SCO possesses every opportunity to emerge as one of the formidable centres of the equitable multipolar world currently taking shape. Together, we have the capability to achieve this – fostering economic prosperity for our nations and citizens.

⚡️ Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova’s comment on the seizure of the St Michael’s Cathedral of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Cherkassy, Ukraine
💬 Today, Ukrainian neo-Nazis committed yet another criminal act against the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC), this time, it was a hostile takeover of the St Michael’s Cathedral in Cherkassy, the largest UOC church in that country.
The attackers opened fire on peaceful parishioners, including women, children, and the elderly. They used pepper spray and drove worshippers out, interrupting the service. As a result of these criminal actions, Metropolitan Theodosy of Cherkassy and Kanev was injured and hospitalised.
Against this backdrop, Mayor of Cherkassy Anatoly Bondarenko cynically referred to the incident as a “voluntary transfer” of the St Michael community into the jurisdiction of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU).
It appears that this barbaric action was committed to enforce the law "On Amending Certain Laws of Ukraine Governing the Activities of Religious Organisations in Ukraine", which took effect on September 23 and has created legal mechanisms for banning the UOC.
The Kiev regime is doing everything possible to outlaw and liquidate the canonical church, while the Western backers of President Zelensky continue to encourage the deepening of the religious split in Ukraine.
Relevant human rights institutions and mechanisms, such as the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), the UN Special Rapporteur on freedom of religion or belief, the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights, and Personal Representatives of OSCE Chairman-in-Office on Tolerance and Non-discrimination, including against Christians, remain criminally silent.
Such pandering to the crimes of Kiev’s neo-Nazis, who are seizing Orthodox churches, persecuting believers, and even resorting to physical violence against clergy, is seen by the Zelensky regime as encouragement of its barbaric actions.
☝️ Once again, we strongly call on relevant international human rights organizations to focus on their primary duties.
In turn, the Russian side continues to gather evidence of the Kiev regime's outrageous crimes, including against the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
These findings are detailed in the reports posted on the Foreign Ministry’s website, “Illegal Actions by the Kiev Regime Targeting the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC), its Clergy and Parishioners” (July 2023) and the most recent report, “Regarding the Situation with the Glorification of Nazism and the Spread of Neo-Nazism and Other Practices That Contribute to Fuelling Contemporary Forms of Racism, Racial Discrimination, Xenophobia and Related Intolerance” (September 11) with an entire section dedicated to the Kiev regime’s persecution of the UOC. I encourage you to review them.
❗️We are convinced that Zelensky will not succeed in destroying canonical Orthodoxy practiced by the majority of the people in that country. We strongly call on the international community to condemn the sacrilegious war waged by the Kiev regime against the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.

⚡️Quite predictably, the Australian government perseveres in its senseless and irresponsible policy, driven by the anti-Russian grand strategy of the West but conveniently wrapped in hypocritical lamentations about “international rules-based order” and faked concerns for Ukraine’s territorial integrity.
Supplying battle tanks, which is by no means a defensive weapon, is another step in Australia’s ever-deeper involvement in the West’s proxy war against Russia.
While shedding crocodile tears about the plight of Ukraine, Australia contributes both politically and materially to protracting the tragic war, making sure Zelensky can continue sending Ukrainians to slaughter in the interests of his foreign masters.
However, as disappointing as it might sound to some in Canberra, the M1A1 Abrams tanks will burn exactly like previously donated Bushmasters. Kiev regime can’t win, whatever weapons it is given. The legitimate security interests of Russia will undoubtedly be restored. It’s high time Australian politicians got rid of their shirtfronting reflexes and faced reality.

🎙 Remarks by President of Russia Vladimir Putin at the Plenary Session of the BRICS Business Forum (October 18, 2024)
💬 I am sincerely delighted to welcome everyone to the BRICS Business Forum.
I would like to note the wide representation of participants in this hall. We have leading business representatives from every country in the BRICS group.
Your companies have been successfully cooperating for a long time, implementing impressive joint projects across a variety of domains: industry and energy, transport and infrastructure, agriculture and the digital economy.
I would like to note, in particular, that this Forum is attended by business leaders from countries that became full participants on January 1, 2024. These are our colleagues and friends from Saudi Arabia, Iran, Egypt, Ethiopia and the United Arab Emirates.
👉 I would like to emphasise that as the current chair of #BRICS, Russia strives to facilitate integration of new members into all cooperation mechanisms. We saw that representatives from the new BRICS countries were warmly received in the Business Council, and they, too, became actively involved in its work.
The theme of Russia’s BRICS Chairmanship in 2024 is Strengthening Multilateralism for Just Global Development and Security.
A meaningful action plan is being implemented to advance the partners on three major tracks:
• politics and security,
• economy and finance,
• cultural and humanitarian ties.
To date, the progress on the plan exceeds 80%.
ℹ️ Over 200 events, meetings, conferences, and industry gatherings have been held, as well as most of the expert and ministerial meetings. However, the BRICS Summit, which will open next week in the Russian city of Kazan, will be the central event.
It is symbolic that the leaders’ meeting in Kazan is preceded by this Business Forum, which underscores the importance of close economic partnership between our countries, promoting trade and investment, and deepening cooperation.
The BRICS partners’ joint efforts aimed at accelerating socioeconomic growth and ensuring sustainable development bring concrete, tangible results and in fact, contribute to improving the well-being and quality of life of our countries’ citizens.
<...>
☝️ Among the BRICS leaders' top priorities is to promote business activity. <...> By helping and supporting each other, we will fulfil the main goal of ensuring positive progress, security and ultimately the well-being of the citizens of our nations.
❗️ BRICS is not oriented against anyone. It is aimed only at one common goal — sustainable development and prosperity of our countries and peoples.

🎙 President of Russia Vladimir Putin met with journalists from BRICS countries ahead of the XVI BRICS Summit in Kazan (October 18, 2024)
Read and watch in full
Key talking points:
• In the modern world, creating nuclear weapons is not a difficult task. I do not know whether current-day Ukraine is capable of doing this now though. It is not easy for Ukraine today, but generally there are no big difficulties in this regard, with everyone knowing how it is done. <...> I can say straight away: under no circumstances will Russia allow this to happen.
• NATO is waging war against us with the hands of the Ukrainian soldiers, and Ukraine spares no lives for the interests of third countries, but Ukraine on its own does not use high-tech weapons: NATO does that.
• What sets BRICS apart from many other international organisations/fora? #BRICS was never meant to be created to oppose anyone. It is a group of countries that work together, guided by shared values, a common vision for development, and, most importantly, by the consideration of each other’s interests.
• In certain sectors, humanity’s existence is impossible without the BRICS countries, particularly in food and energy markets and so on.
• Russian-Chinese cooperation on the global stage is undoubtedly one of the key pillars of strategic stability worldwide.
• We do not interfere in [bilateral relations of other countries]. If there are any issues arising and if there is something that depends on us, we are ready to offer our services in resolving these issues, if they arise and if the participants in the corresponding process are interested in any involvement from our side.
• The United States should not have destroyed the [Middle East] Quartet. it worked, it was easier to agree on all positions. But the US monopolised the work, took all the responsibility and eventually failed.
• The main method to resolve the Palestinian issue is to create a full-fledged Palestinian state.
• 95% of Russia’s foreign trade with its partners is being done in national currencies. The United States did it themselves.
• The International Criminal Court has no universal power. This is an international organisation whose jurisdiction Russia does not recognise, like many other countries.

🎙 Excerpt from the answers to media questions by President of Russia Vladimir Putin to BRICS countries' journalists ahead of the XVI BRICS Summit in Kazan (October 18, 2024)
❓ Question: Mr. President, the sentiment in the West regarding Ukraine has changed. Earlier there were talks about Ukraine’s inevitable victory and settling everything on the battlefield, but now there are active speculations about ceding territories in exchange for the remaining part of Ukraine joining NATO. How do you like this idea?
💬 President Putin: I do not understand when you talk about ceding territories, because those territories which our soldiers are fighting for on the battlefield, these are our territories.
These are the Lugansk People’s Republic, the Donetsk People’s Republic, the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions. This is the first thing.
Second. Without any doubt, apart from this, we need to resolve the issue of ensuring long-term interests of Russia in the security sphere. If we are talking about some specific peace processes, then these should not be the processes connected with a truce for a week or two or for a year what would allow NATO countries to re-arm and stockpile new ammunition.
We need conditions for a long-term, stable and lasting peace which would ensure equal security for all participants in this difficult process. This is what we should aspire for.
And if someone spoke at some point about the necessity to inflict a strategic defeat on Russia, ensure victory over Russia on the battlefield, they already saw for themselves that this is impossible and unrealistic, and changed their point of view. Well, they were right to do so, I commend them for that.
