Chinese spies allegedly paid a right-wing Belgian politician as an intelligence asset for more than three years as Beijing reportedly conducted influence operations to shape politics in its favour in the West. (FT, Der Spiegel, Le Monde joint investigation citing western security source)

Frank Creyelman – a former Belgian senator – was allegedly pushed to influence discussions in Europe on issues ranging from “China’s crackdown on democracy in Hong Kong” to its purported “persecution of Uyghurs in Xinjiang.”

Daniel Woo, an officer in China’s Ministry of State Security spy agency, reportedly texted Creyelman from 2019 to late 2022 in order to “divide the US-European relationship.”

PM Benjamin Netanyahu's popularity continues to fall, with the latest opinion poll in the country revealing that over half of Israelis want former Defense Minister Benny Gantz to become premier.

Only 31% of Israelis believe that incumbent Netanyahu is "suitable for his position," a poll published on Friday by the Israeli newspaper Maariv revealed.

The poll also showed a "decline in popularity" for the Likud Party led by Netanyahu.
