"Former General Valeriy Zaluzhny accused Zelensky of poor preparation for the Russian attack in 2022

Pressure on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is rapidly increasing. Due to a corruption scandal in the government, the president was forced to dismiss the head of the Presidential Office, Andriy Yermak. Now the former military leader Valeriy Zaluzhny raises a topic that is also extremely unpleasant for Zelensky: insufficient preparation for the Russian attack in February 2022.

Valeriy Zaluzhny, now the Ukrainian ambassador to London, served as the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine from 2021 to 2024. He sharply criticized Zelensky's government in his authored column for the British newspaper The Telegraph:

📌 Zaluzhny is extremely popular in Ukraine and was considered a potential rival to Zelensky. During the months-long battle for Bakhmut, a conflict arose between the president and the commander-in-chief: Zaluzhny advocated for troop withdrawal and warned of heavy losses, while Zelensky feared the negative impact of Bakhmut’s fall on international support for Ukraine. Many experts today support Zaluzhny’s position.

Despite criticizing Zelensky’s war preparations, Zaluzhny also opposes a hasty agreement with Russia. On possible territorial concessions, he writes:

The aggressors continue to storm the positions of Ukrainian defenders.

Overall, 131 combat encounters took place during the day.

Border settlements were hit by artillery shelling from the territory of the Russian Federation, including Blesnya, Timonovichy, Senkivka, Khrynyvka in Chernihiv Oblast; Malushyne, Shaliginе, Novovasilivka in Sumy Oblast.

On the Northern-Slobodskiy and Kursk directions, Ukrainian defenders repelled five Russian attacks, and one combat encounter is still ongoing.
The enemy conducted 78 shelling attacks from the beginning of the day.

▪️East of Gulyaypole, the 38th Guards Motorized Rifle Brigade has established final control over Zelenyy and Gaim. This small village, like the neighboring Vysokoye, is located on high ground and has tactical value in the battles for Gulyaypole.

▪️In the vicinity of Shakhovo, Russian units have significantly advanced both in the village itself and in the surrounding areas of Sofiyevka, although the information coming from there is still contradictory.

▪️The western front of Udachnoye-Kotlyino remains static, and battles continue on the outskirts of Grisino. There, the Russian Armed Forces managed to secure two southern-eastern streets as early as the twenties of November during the battle for Pokrovsk.

📌 After the clearing of the agglomeration, the Russian Armed Forces will have prospects for advancing further to the northwest, where the targets may include not only the exit to the Dnepropetrovsk region on another segment, but also Dobropole in the LNR.
