🔥 SFT Conflicts, RL Coexists: A Theoretical and Empirical Analysis of Multi-Task Learning for LLMs

💡 The paper explores the differences between supervised fine-tuning and reinforcement learning in enhancing multi-task reasoning for large language models. The authors found that supervised fine-tuning suffers from severe task conflicts under multi-stage training, whereas reinforcement learning enables stable coexistence across diverse tasks. They attribute this to the parameter level, where reinforcement learning induces sparse and approximately orthogonal updates across tasks.

The authors provide a theoretical explanation for this mechanism by analyzing multi-task gradient interference. They found that interference in supervised fine-tuning is norm-limited, scaling with the absolute gradient magnitude, whereas interference in reinforcement learning is variance-limited, bounded by the gradient variance induced by advantage normalization and on-policy optimization. This small variance bound yields near-orthogonal optimization directions across tasks.

Leveraging this insight, the authors propose Parallel-RL, a paradigm that decouples multi-task training, significantly improving efficiency and flexibility. The results reveal a distinction between supervised fine-tuning and reinforcement learning, highlighting the benefits of reinforcement learning in multi-task learning for large language models. The proposed Parallel-RL approach has the potential to improve the efficiency and flexibility of multi-task training, making it a promising direction for future research.

🔥 SimWAM: A Simple World Action Model for End-to-End Autonomous Driving

💡 The paper presents SimWAM, a simple yet effective world action model for end to end autonomous driving. The problem addressed is that existing methods for world action models require costly future generation at inference, which can lead to high latency. To solve this, SimWAM uses video generation purely as a training signal and co-trains a pre-trained video expert and a lightweight action expert with joint flow matching.

An isolated attention mask keeps action prediction independent of future frames, allowing the video branch to be discarded after training and leaving a self-contained planner that directly predicts trajectories. The video backbone could be replaced and the action expert scaled independently without modifying the learning objective or inference pipeline.

The authors further apply reinforcement learning to optimize a compositional driving reward beyond trajectory imitation. The results show that SimWAM achieves 91.5 PDM on NAVSIM, surpasses state of the art WAM-based planners with substantially lower latency, and transfers zero-shot to nuScenes.

Overall, SimWAM is a simple yet solid baseline that could readily benefit from advances in video generation for efficient autonomous driving. The code and model weights are available for further development and improvement.

🔥 LLMRouter: Unified Infrastructure for Developing, Evaluating, and Deploying LLM Routers

💡 The paper addresses the problem of developing, evaluating, and deploying large language models LLMs in a cost-effective manner. Since no single LLM is optimal across all queries and budget constraints, model routing is essential for efficient deployment. However, existing routers adopt diverse formulations and implementations, making fair comparison and extension difficult.

To address this issue, the authors propose a unified formulation of LLM routing as a sequential decision process characterized by five components: context encoders, model encoders, scoring functions, decision rules, and learning signals. This formulation covers single-turn, multi-turn, and personalized routing.

Based on this formulation, the authors develop an automated pipeline for constructing routing supervision and evaluating routers jointly on response quality and inference cost. The resulting benchmark, xRouteBench, spans generic LLM, memory-augmented, vision, time-series, and personalized routing tasks.

The authors also introduce LLMRouter, an open-source modular infrastructure with more than 16 representative routers. Their empirical study shows that learned routers outperform the strongest fixed-model baseline by 14.6% relatively, lightweight routers become more competitive under tight cost constraints, and user-conditioned routing consistently improves personalization.

Overall, the paper provides a unified framework for LLM routing, a comprehensive benchmark, and a modular infrastructure, which can facilitate the development, evaluation, and deployment of LLMs in a cost-effective manner. The results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach and provide insights into the importance of routing in LLM deployment.

"The Mathematics of Bitcoin" is a concise work that analyzes Bitcoin from a mathematical perspective. 📊

It utilizes probability theory, stochastic processes, martingales, combinatorics, and special functions to explore the mechanisms of the Bitcoin protocol. 🧮

In particular, the authors examine the probability of double-spending, the profitability of mining, block generation, miner strategies, and the resilience of the protocol. ⛏️

If you want to delve deeper, I also recommend "Bitcoin and Cryptocurrency Technologies" from Princeton University. This is a much broader introduction to cryptographic hash functions, digital signatures, consensus, Proof of Work, mining, transactions, anonymity, security, and the incentive system in cryptocurrencies. 🎓

🔥 MatrAIx: Simulating the World with 8.3 Billion Persona Agents

💡 The paper introduces MatrAIx, a population-scale simulated-user evaluation infrastructure for testing AI systems and digital products with heterogeneous users. The problem addressed is that human evaluation of AI systems and digital products is costly, slow, and difficult to scale, while offline evaluations often abstract away human diversity and interactive behavior.

The MatrAIx infrastructure has three core components: Persona8B, which contains 8.3 billion persona records represented by 1290 categorical dimensions, with a quality-filtered core set of approximately 1 million personas comprising 599847 human-grounded and 400000 synthetic records. The MatrAIx Playground provides four environments in which diverse users evaluate and interact with digital products: Survey, AI Chatbot, Web, and App. MatrAIx also provides 1010 application tasks spanning more than 25 domains, including Commerce, Software, Finance, and Healthcare.

The persona agents were powered by three large language models: Claude Opus 4.8, GPT 5.5, and Claude Haiku 4.5. The results of 18189 evaluation trials across eight representative tasks showed that decisions and preferences vary across persona backgrounds, including hesitation after a price increase, willingness to continue after an AI assistant fails, and latency tolerance.

The paper also conducted two main validation studies. The first study, a 400-trial controlled study, evaluated persona adherence across ten behavioral attributes and all four environments, with declared behavior expressed or correctly suppressed in 366 trials, which is 91.5 percent. The second study had human and LLM judges evaluate the extraction quality of human-grounded personas.

Overall, MatrAIx provides an end-to-end infrastructure for evaluating AI systems and digital products with diverse simulated human users, addressing the need for scalable and realistic evaluation of AI systems and digital products.

🔥 Hunyuan3D-Buffalo 1.0: A Unified Multimodal Model for Scalable 3D Generation, Understanding, and Editing

💡 The paper introduces Hunyuan3D-Buffalo 1.0, a unified multimodal model that integrates 3D understanding, generation, editing, and part generation into a single architecture. The main problem addressed is the lack of large-scale and geometrically consistent editing data for 3D modeling, which hinders the development of unified 3D models. To overcome this limitation, the authors propose a framework that combines two main components: Hunyuan3D-VLM for semantic, structural, and spatial understanding, and Hunyuan3D DiT for high-fidelity 3D synthesis.

The method involves training the model on an 87M-scale 3D multimodal corpus, which includes 25M understanding samples, 50M text-to-3D pairs, and 12M editing pairs generated using Nano3D-v2. The model uses multimodal semantic conditions for generation and conditions the diffusion process on the source object representation for editing and part generation, preserving the overall structure and unedited regions.

The results show that Hunyuan3D-Buffalo 1.0 achieves state-of-the-art or leading performance on text-to-3D generation and 3D editing benchmarks, while also exhibiting strong understanding and part-generation capabilities. The analysis demonstrates that unified 3D multimodal training is effective, as both generation and understanding improve editing. The paper contributes to the development of scalable and unified 3D modeling by providing a framework that can perform multiple tasks within a single architecture, enabling more efficient and effective 3D modeling and editing.

🔥 LeapTalk: Breaking the Latency-Quality Trade-off in Talking Head Generation

💡 The paper introduces LeapTalk, a novel framework for real-time talking head generation that breaks the latency-quality trade-off. The problem addressed is that current methods for talking head generation either suffer from high latency due to multi-step diffusion or error accumulation and identity drift when using real-time autoregressive approaches. To solve this, LeapTalk proposes a single-step bridge distillation scheme that enables stable and real-time talking head generation for arbitrarily long videos.

The method involves a data-to-data transport formulation based on a Brownian bridge, which mitigates identity drift and enhances long-term temporal stability. Additionally, a heterogeneous distillation framework with an SNR-aligned time transformation is used to enable smooth knowledge transfer from a pre-trained diffusion teacher to the student bridge model. An audio-driven classifier-free guidance mechanism is also proposed to maintain fine-grained lip synchronization.

The results show that LeapTalk achieves high-fidelity and temporally consistent video generation with only one step, reaching up to 200 frames per second. This significantly outperforms existing approaches in both efficiency and stability, demonstrating the effectiveness of the proposed framework for real-time talking head generation. Overall, LeapTalk provides a solution to the latency-quality trade-off, enabling high-quality and real-time talking head generation for long-form videos.

🔥 BDH-CQ: In-Context Learning with Recurrent Latent Reasoning

💡 The paper introduces BDH-CQ, a reasoning model that combines in-context learning with recurrent latent reasoning. The model is designed to solve complex problems through iterative computation in a high-dimensional latent space, without explicitly stating its intermediate reasoning steps. The key innovation is the use of recurrent memory that is updated continuously at inference time, allowing the model to learn from demonstrations and apply inferred transformations to solve new problems. The authors evaluate the model on the ARC-AGI-1 evaluation set and use controlled interventions to study its behavior. The results show that a 150M-parameter configuration of the model achieves a new state of the art in benchmark cost efficiency, reaching 29.5% pass@2 at a computed inference cost of $0.0007 per task, breaking through the previously reported cost-accuracy Pareto frontier. The model's ability to learn from demonstrations and apply transformations consistently makes it a significant contribution to the field of artificial general intelligence. Overall, the paper demonstrates the effectiveness of combining in-context learning with recurrent latent reasoning, and establishes a new cost-accuracy frontier for reasoning models.
