Official sources confirm that many people were burnt alive after getting trapped inside the building. At least 67 deaths have been officially recorded so far.

Indian national Sarabjit Kaur from Kapurthala travelled to Pakistan on 4 November 2025 on a religious visa to visit Gurdwara Nankana Sahib. After a visa violation, Indian authorities sought her deportation. Pakistan confirmed custody and scheduled her return via Attari Wagah on 5 to 6 January. At the last moment, the deportation was stopped without explanation.
A leaked 6 January memo from Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry reveals the reason. Her return was blocked on political grounds, overruling completed legal procedures.
