🇩🇪 ORWELLIAN: 1,800 Euros fine for liking a post in Germany!

A 64-year-old woman from Lohfelden in Hesse must appear in court for using three thumbs-up emojis 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻.

The Kassel public prosecutor's office issued a €1,800 fine against her after she responded to a post on X with the 3 emojis.

The original post, to which the woman responded in October of last year, reported on a 15-year-old Swedish girl who allegedly hanged her alleged rapist – a migrant.

The author of the post had mockingly remarked: "Does he now have 77 virgins?"

The public prosecutor's office interpreted the 64-year-old's three thumbs-up emojis as approval of the crime and initiated an investigation.

The sentence order states that the defendant "publicly approved of an intentional killing by way of unjustified vigilantism" and was particularly pleased "that this vigilantism was perpetrated against a migrant." Furthermore, through her reaction, she appropriated the cynical comment about the "77 virgins."

The case is one of a growing number of proceedings for allegedly criminal statements made online.

Germany increasingly prosecutes people for online activity.
